If you are looking for authentic German food with and authentic vibe, this is the place to eat! Hands down the best meal in Mainz. A must for everyone in the area. Spent per week in mainz and this is the best meal I had in Germany. Not only is the food absolutely amazing to treat the hosts You as a family! This place is really the hidden jewel! In our week here, my wife and I can really say that we welcome the most in town when we are here! The reviews are not in front of me. This place is excellent!

Amazing German restaurant with great food and wine. The place is very sweet and rustic inside with a warm feeling. The owner is wonderful and speaks excellent English. I will definitely return. Also ideal for Spargle season, huge portion and delicious!

We spent a night in mainz instead of staying at the francfurter airport during a stop. to the kanzel was the highlight! I sent an e-mail for a reservation about a week ago and I could say that this would be a great evening meal. from the moment we arrived, we felt like a local related to dinner. the courtyard is very beautiful and we had a wonderful table. petra speaks perfectly English and helped us select a great local giant. we are normally red wine drinkers and hesitated to drink white, but were not disappointed. at the end we bought more duty free at the airport. food was excellent, everything was fresh and professionally prepared. petra and guido were nice hosts and gave us the feeling of being something special. oh, and the gloomy were incredible
