We spotted this little outdoor bar/beer garden when we went for a late afternoon walk along the banks of the Rhine. We stopped on the way back, we stopped for a glass of Riesling. You order at the bar and choose a table by the river or one of the easy outdoor lounges. They serve bar-style food also although we only had drinks. It was a delightful spot to sit in the sun and watch the barges and the cruise boats slide on by. The view only got better as we watched the afternoon light fade away and the sun start to set. Combined with the walk along the river, it was a very pleasant way to spend an hour or so before dinner on a summer afternoon.
We sat watching the boats pass by on a summer's evening drinking beer and spritzers eating flammenkucken and twisty chips. Not haute cuisine but hot and tasty. Busy and friendly, and importantly at the moment clean and not crowded. We were lucky to get a table.
This beer garden is an excellent place to get a beer, refresh ourselves and enjoy the view on the river. There is a lot of space so that it can accommodate large groups. The food options are pretty limited (this is a beer garden after all) and include burgers and sausages, as well as a few sweet options. Whilst the fries (potentially to be paid as extra) are excellent and tasty, the rest (I tried several classes of sausages) is usual in the sense it was not bad, but it did not trigger anything special at the same time. The price of the beer is reasonable, but the food is quite expensive for what it is. Finally, there is no service at tables, and we need to queue at two bars to be served. The bar taking care of the drinks works fine, but the one responsible for the food was totally disorganized. If I have to go back there, this will be only for the view.
We were just here and were happy about a beautiful beer garden. The location is great, but the service is terrible. A real embarrassment for the Mainz gastronomy. Why? 1. Beer was poured and it ran down both sides. When I asked if they could just go over it with a cloth because otherwise their hands would get wet and stick, they said no. It's not the job of the staff. What??? 2. At 3 p.m. we wanted to get fries sold out. Spundekäs with baked pretzel sold out. Other dishes also sold out. Only curry or bratwurst left. On a sunny Saturday afternoon? And Metro 10 minutes away to get supplies? Seriously? It doesn't work at all. And it won’t be closed until the following week for their season. 3. Tables and upholstered furniture, all dirty, sticky and overloaded with rubbish. That's not how gastronomy works!! Hoping for a change of operator! The location is great!
