My twin brother Stephen and I were exploring around the wonderful Austrias neighbourhood when we decided to drop into Taberna Real ,been here before on previous holidays to Madrid ,always had a great time and so it proved on our latest visit. I love the look of this tavern ,interior is superb ,dark wood features ,great decor and furnishings ,a great looking serving bar and lots of seating options both inside and outside ,this is were we chose to sit as temperatures hit 42 degrees Celsius 107 degrees Fahrenheit in old money ,a very pleasant member of the bar team served us bottles of Mahou red beer ,served freezing cold and accompanied with tasty tapa meal ,we soaked up the sun while we sipped our beers . A big fan of this beer brewed locally in the Madrid region of Spain ,a light and hoppy lager style beer bursting with taste ,when this beer is served iced cold and sparkling as in this tavern it's such a delicious beer indeed. We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to Taberna Real we had a good time. Taberna Real is easy to locate on Plaza Isabel II ,one of the famous square's of this most beautiful of city's. Opening hours are; Monday to Thursday ,10am till 12.30am. Friday Saturday,10am till 1.30am. Sunday,10am till 12.30am. Well worth checking out if you're near Plaza Isabel II.

Maybe the best place for dinner at Madrid. Perfect food. Everything I try meat, steak, oyster and jamon was fantastic. Wine list is good. Service also. I recommend it absolutely.

My sister, nephew and I went here on a whim, we don’t speak much Spanish but we’re able to order our food and wine. Food was ok prices seemed reasonable. I should have checked the check more closely, they charged us for olives and pickles with fish…..we did not order this. Not only did they charge us for something we didn’t order they charged us per head….it was an extra $10.50 on the bill. They also charged my sister for an extra glass of wine and the water is definitely overpriced. It’s a shame because most places are descent and honest, these guys not so much

We ordered drinks and wanted to eat something simple on the side. So we ordered three portions of Jamón ibérico con pan con tomate (8 euros each). The waiter came with a plate which had 6 small pieces of bread and some Ibérico ham. We thought this must have been one portion. But he stated it was the three portions we ordered while serving it. The location isn’t that great and the place isn’t fancy at all. Yet they charge 24 euros for 6 little pieces of bread with a little bit of ham. We didn’t order anything else afterwards and left. Definitely not worth the money.

The restaurant was recommended by our hotel which turned out to be a great mistake. Service was surly. Octopus was too tough to eat, shrimp toast was mostly mayo, gazpacho and tortilla esponola adequate. Prices, compared to other similar restaurants, was very high. Skip it.
