Decided to stop in to have a beer and bocadillo, a combo with beer, crisps, and a bocadillo is about € 12. Overall food is not bad but being in Atocha station; you do pay a bit more than in other places in Madrid. The Cruzcampo beer on tap for €4 (large) was enjoyable.
The service staff is not tolerant of non fluent Spanish speaking patrons and it was reflected in the service. Some of the “add ones” to the entrees did not show up on our plates (I.e. toast points). Not a show stopper but, noticeable. Some entrees did indicate they were for 2 or more people however, we did inquire about several selections and were told, they too were for 2 people. What we did order was good but, did not outweigh the nuisance of the experience. There are many wonderful places in this vicinity, we choose not to return.
Had a quick coffee here this morning whilst waiting for our train time departure, the outside seating is overlooking the Atocha botanical area, lots of seating, clean(ish) and a nice coffee overall, would recommend. Reasonably priced at EUR 1.90 for cappuccino.
Patatas bravas is pretty hard to mess up, but sadly that’s what La Barila does. Truly a grim experience.
We arrived late and missed our desired train to Toledo so spent time here in this fantastic little coffee shop on the lower floor of the station, the staff were extremely friendly even trying their English as I battled with my Spanish, the order arrived just as I wanted it my wife was very surprised as I didnt want her ordering in her natural Colombian Spanish and we sat drinking strong early morning Spanish coffee watching the world go by!!! If you find yourself with time to spare pay it a visit.
