Was Garret Swift at Short Stack Eatery a mag?
Went to stacks for brunch with my wife and two other couples. Almost everyone ordered the trio(pick three items out of list). I ended up picking out four items: eggs, a blueberry pancake short stack, potatoes and bacon. This time we got a booth and the service was fast and enjoyable. I will go back again and again. I just love this place. View all feedback.
What ming fraser dislikes about Short Stack Eatery:
It 's fine. Kinda overrated, but I mostly go for the blind special. It 's usually very good, but sometimes it 's a waffle. You 're allowed to ask if it 's sweet or savory without the price jump on asking what the blind is. I still remember the whole McDonald 's is why our prices are so high which is a bit of a reason to make me not want to go here View all feedback.

Staff is great. Super friendly and cheery despite it being 6 or 7 in the morning, which is a feat that will forever impress me as a night shifter. I do appreciate the friendly touch of the staff and atmosphere but truthfully they could have given me the worst customer service, or operated out of some sketchy alleyway back door situation and I would still come back. The food is so good I honestly thought it was a fluke. I went in this weekend and I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of grits. When I took a bite of the grits it tasted like home. I don’t know a better way to describe it. It was like I was 15 years old again waking up to the smell of bacon in the oven and rolling out of bed at noon to enjoy the weekly Saturday brunch my mother always made for us. When I left I convinced myself I was over hyping the food to myself because I was exhausted, starving after work, and maybe a little homesick. So I went back today and got take out. I was absolutely not over hyping the food. This may sound dramatic but I mean it, this is hands down the best breakfast place I have found since I moved to the Midwest in 2018. I have no idea what they do to make their food taste so good, but I hope they don’t stop as long as I’m living here. Luckily for me I just moved in two blocks away so I don’t have to deal with parking to get there either. I’ve found my new favorite spot. I’m telling everyone including the person reading this right now, you absolutely have to try this place!!!
OMG, OMG.... when I tell you this place has good breakfast food!!! The lines outside the restaurant confirms that. It's really small, so if you're going, get up early to get a seat. Otherwise, you will be waiting in line, BUT it will be worth it. That cornbeef hash and the sweet potato pancakes were fire , hmmm, hmmm goodt. The little side salad not only cleansed my palate but was very tasty. If you're heading to Madison on business or if you're going to visit your child at the university, MAKE IT your business to visit. Your taste buds and family will thank you that you did. Oh, and they're also all about using local produce and recycling. You order before you're seated at the counter, so scan the menu before you get in. You also get your own water, coffee, and condiments at a little station. It's self- served. The wait staff will bring your food and cocktails to the table. Good times...
Corner Classic Breakfast Preface: This corner restaurant serves quality breakfast, cocktails, and sweet treats. The atmosphere is unique and historic, with the eclectic collection of different souvenirs left by past patrons. Food: My party ordered the Pulled Pork Cheese Grits, a Buttermilk Short Stack, and the Biscuits and Gravy. The spices of everything were great with the pancakes and biscuits being extra fluffy. The only issue I had was he Grits were a little too liquidity for my taste. Overall, it was still fantastic. Service: Quick and efficient. Food was brought out in a timely manner. Atmosphere: Quaint and historic, but in a mom and pop shop type of way. Overall: If you ever need a good bite to eat, definitely get in here and get yourself a stack (of pancakes). Score: 4.7 out of 5
Only seats 11 tables at a time, but well worth the short wait. Came from out of town and decided to try it, and it’s 10/10. Staff was friendly and food was delicious, some of the best breakfast I’ve had.
Food is way way over priced and there is propaganda everywhere. That being said, the staff was nice.
Stomping Grounds Cafe is a popular spot for breakfast in Madison, offering a variety of delicious pancakes and other breakfast items. The portions are generous and the atmosphere is comfortable, perfect for a relaxing meal. While some reviewers have had negative experiences with the service and pricing, many others rave about the exceptional food and friendly service. The unique menu items like the Cajun Biscuits and Gravy and the vegan pancakes stand out as highlights. Overall, Stomping Grounds Cafe is a must-visit for breakfast lovers in the area, despite some minor drawbacks.

We've been to Short Stack previously and really enjoyed it. That's why when our friend was in town and wanted to go out for breakfast, we took her to Short Stack. It was a Friday morning @9:00. They place is quirky and fun. The tables are glass w/old post-cards and envelopes under the glass. Mason jars and whisks have been refurbished into lamps and chandeliers. Great atmosphere. We ordered at the counter and then took a seat in the window. Although busy, it was not particularly crowded and our food arrived within a reasonable time-frame. Everything looked amazing. My dining companions ordered the breakfast sandwich and a skillet and really enjoyed them. My food however was not so good. I ordered the Cajun biscuits and gravy and poached eggs. The Cajun gravy was quite tasty but the biscuit was bone-dry and rock-hard. Even using a knife it was tough sawing through the biscuit. Worse, was the poached eggs. Although very pretty, served snow white in a sundae glass, they were hard-boiled inside. I'm not talking slightly overcooked, these were hard-boiled eggs inside. Completely solid. I know poached eggs can be tricky to cook, but this was ridiculous. So, a couple of dishes were off, not the end of the world. But the service was also really disappointing. Literally we were completely done eating and nearly ready to leave before anyone came back to our table to ask how it was. I think the only reason she came back was to clear the dishes. I mentioned the eggs and she said she'd mention it to the cooks. Since she could actually see the hard-boiled yolks left in the dish, I thought she should offer to provide new ones. She didn't and I wouldn't have taken her up on it anyway since we were already done eating, but again I felt like it would have been appropriate for her to offer. She also finally asked if I wanted a refill on my ice-tea which I did since it had been almost empty when the food first arrived. Just checking on us 20 minutes earlier would have been better. We have had good food and service there previously. My companions enjoyed their food today, but this was a very disappointing experience for me.

Went here after watching the parade with a friend and fortunately the place didn't really full so decided to take a break here. Ordered buttermilk pancake and chocolate chips pancake for my friend. We were so surprised to see how much they served us because both of us had already eaten before. The buttermilk pancake was served with butter and maple syrup, the chocolate chip one was the chocolate chip pancake served with maple syrup also cream and choco chips on the top. The pancake tasted good, not surprising tough.

The food here was quite good overall. The pancakes were exceptional, while the other dishes were just average. They have a queue outside, which can be frustrating, but it does help keep the inside of the restaurant from feeling overcrowded. I do find their prices a bit high for breakfast fare, although the portions are generous. I probably won't return because of the pricing.
During my recent stop in Madison, I decided to grab breakfast at this restaurant. I must say, the Corned Beef Hash was the best I've ever tasted. The potatoes were infused with rosemary and other seasonings, showcasing that they truly took the time to season the food well. It was absolutely delicious, and I was thoroughly impressed.
I had an amazing experience at this breakfast place that serves breakfast all day! I went at 8:30 PM on a Friday, and there was no wait at all. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was delightful, particularly the cheesy bread bun. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was really inviting.
Months ago, we tried to eat here but had to skip it because of the long line outside—which is usually a good sign. Returning to Madison this week, we decided to give it another shot despite the crowd, and it definitely did not disappoint! This is easily one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had and by far the best spot I’ve found in the city so far. I ordered the trio with pancakes, sausage, and potatoes, and honestly wish I could give it 6 out of 5 stars! The vegan pancakes were fantastic too, and the values this restaurant represents are truly important. It’s well worth the wait, and I can’t wait to come back.
Excellent eggs Benedict and Bloody Mary. I had potatoes on the side. The biscuits are some of the best I've ever had anywhere in the U.S.! Everything was perfect. With every bite, you discover new and exciting flavors. If you appreciate complex and layered tastes in your food, this is the place to be. I won't even get into how amazing the Bloody Mary was. Just go here, now.

What a fantastic place! However, to be honest, there was a bit too much food.
This is an excellent spot for breakfast! The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff are delightful, and the food is outstanding! I haven't tried the mimosas myself, but I've heard they're quite delicious. It's definitely on the pricier side, but it's a lovely indulgence that’s worth the cost! Just be sure to arrive early or be prepared for a wait; there's a reason they always have a sign out front explaining the line-up! Additionally, it's an incredibly queer-friendly and inclusive place. As for parking, you'll need to use a parking garage or pay for street parking—it’s located on State Street, so be ready for that!
The corned beef and hash here is quite tasty.

This is an excellent place to bring friends who appreciate both meat and vegetarian dishes. They offer a variety of delicious vegan options that are clearly labeled on the menu, featuring both savory and sweet selections.
