That was my first trip after the rebuilding back to merchant. Unfortunately, I feel that they made a mistake with their new layout. the bar was earlier over the room when they went in the door. it was beautiful, it felt really spacious. the bar is attracted directly next to the house door at the front of the restaurant. it feels smaller. our table of 5 sat with 3 of us on the couch and 2 in chairs. Unfortunately we were at the end of the couch session, right next to the bar - one of our friends was constantly attacked because the bar room was very crowded and half-exhausted into the sitting area. the room we were given was not large enough to sit comfortably without feeling as if we walked over the table of 2 right next to us. it was also very loud sitting that near a very busy bar area. the drinks were super- my gin-sling was very delicious. eating from beginning to end was a hit. the Brussel spits and cheese curds were delicious. we had a mix of netzen by matzo ballsuppe, a cheeseburger, chicken sandwich and the mushroom risotto. all enjoyed their meal very much. my only recommendation would be to add a bit (or a bit more if it is already there) lemon zest to the risotto to light it up. otherwise really nice.
We are frequent weekend travelers to madison and visit each visit new places. as we were in the city and saw a show at the ouvertüre, we have brought merchant out from the listings of open table. warm and friendly staff welcomed and sat us. our server, jonathan, was incredible! bubbly, friendly and full of great recommendations. he's a guard. started with a few sazeracs and snails on toast; both were fantastic. the escaped were the best nativity for me (it was a Saturday evening in wisconsin, what else could I order? and lake superior whitefish for my spouse. both were made perfect. rounded with a few glasses wein (excellent wine offers, and our meal was complete. we recommend merchant and look forward to going back there while in madison.
