An extremely warm and welcoming pub, certainly one to visit if you are staying in Lyndhurst for more than a few days. The food is absolutely fantastic and they have an excellent selection of drinks on tap. A perfect place to stop in after a nice walk in the countryside.. Vegetarian options: A good selection of vegetarian options. Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 View all feedback.
What Fernando Lobina doesn't like about The Fox Hounds, Lyndhurst:
slow service on a Sunday evening, under seasoned and overcooked Sunday roast. i knew it being part of a chain was a red flag but i thought i would give it a chance. i wish i could recommend because of the nice interior but i cannot recommend this place. Price per person: £20–30 Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3 View all feedback.

The pub is very nice, lovely inside, the staff were very polite and the food came out in good time but that's where the good times ended. I ordered the Ploughman's, which was described as a sharing meal, for 2. What you get is 1 scotch egg, cut in half, some soggy salt beef, bread that was wet, like it had been defrosted, a pile of wilted rocket and cheese, albeit a good portion of cheese. That was it, for £24 it felt like a big over charge and sub-par food. My mrs ordered a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich, which was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all, the two meals, 2 drinks and 1 soft drink came to nearly £60 and I honestly can't understand how it can be justified, we've eaten better food, multiple courses for less money and enjoyed it more. Maybe we had a bad day there, I don't know, but with other options on the same street I can't imagine ever going back.
