My husband and I ate dinner here last evening, and it was wonderful! The décor was classy yet cozy, the menu varied and appealing. The joy for me, as a person diagnosed with Celiac Disease, was the wide variety of gluten free meals available. This place uses rice flour to prepare their pan fried haddock (and their deep fried fish and chips, available only at lunch time.) We shared an Evergreen salad, which was fresh... View all feedback.
Great views Great view and Great Service. Great view of harbour, nice surroundings and good beer. Fish is great
The food is delicious, prepared with great taste and presented beautifully on the plates. The prices are reasonable.
I visited this restaurant for the first time with friends in the fall. There were plenty of seats available since it was during the week. The service was outstanding, and our meal was delicious with a diverse menu offering both meat and fish options. They also had a great selection of wine, beer, and liquor to choose from.
Bay Leaf is the latest version of a restaurant attempting to provide a good experience in the Lunenburg Arms, the town's largest hotel. And they finally have put it all together, under the able guidance of Esther Bourgeois. We joined another couple for the Valentine Dinner. They had not planned on such a successful weekend and had run out of the fish choice of the two items on the special menu, so they offered any other main dish instead, including the steak. Appetizers included not a choice, but BOTH a terrific pear and parsnip soup and a lobster salad. When one of the party could not eat shellfish, they immediately substituted a delicious spinach and cranberry salad. The steaks were grilled to perfection and had either grilled onions or blue cheese sauce. There were plenty of oven roasted potato wedges and winter vegetables. Dessert was ether a flan fried in a crust or chocolate-dipped strawberries. Everything was delicious and the presentation was very upper scale. Service was friendly and efficient. When a pot of tea arrived only warm, it was immediately taken away and replaced with one where the water was properly boiled. With the loss of the Trattoria Della Nonna a few years ago, Lunenburg needed another good quality and reasonably priced dinner restaurant, and this is it. I previously had summer afternoon lunch here and it was equally as satisfying. Its only problem is that the outdoor patio faces the street instead of the harbour. It's a shame, but with good food and good conversation, can be easily overcome. p.s, The recent upgrading has improved the ambiance of the dining room 200.% If you are just looking for a place for an evening snack and drink, the bar area has a very welcoming fireplace.
Our party of 5 were all very pleased with our visit to this establishment on Jan. 2.Though relatively quiet our server Mark was holding down the entire dining room, and service bar single-handedly, yet his demeanour was one of unhurried, relaxed dining pace. The atmosphere was nice as we enjoyed lovely jazz standards on the sound system at the correct volume. Most of our party are of a shorter stature and did find the chairs, although comfortable, they did place the table at a slightly high elevation. It was evident that they had a huge New Year's service and they were short on one or two items, apologies were given and an extra effort was made to offer substitutions that were comped. Overall the food was prepared excellently, and our server performed admirably. I can see us returning in the future. There are several fine establishments in the area at a somewhat higher cost. I recommend Bay Leaf as an affordable option that does not sacrifice taste or service.
