Mortimers - Ludlow
Mortimers
Description
Mortimers offers consistently well-prepared meals, with the scallop dish standing out. The taster menu received high praise, with outstanding elements and excellent service for a special anniversary celebration. The restaurant was described as heavenly, although lacking a bit of atmosphere on quieter nights. Despite a mistimed service experience, overall, the food and service were fantastic, providing a beautiful evening of eating and drinking. With exquisite food and excellent staff, Mortimers was deemed one of the best dining experiences by a customer who would travel long distances for a meal there. The setting is atmospheric, the food fantastic, and the staff lovely, making Mortimers highly recommended.

This meal was given to as a gift, we had a wonderful evening. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and welcoming.
The restaurant, from the outside, looks like an unassuming building compared to some of the other places in Ludlow, but when you go through the front door, you are transformed into the past. The bar area has incredible wooden beams and doors which help build the atmosphere. There is an incredible piece of art of the castle which you can't help but look at. We had the Taster Menu and decided to pair each course with wine. It made the bill £150 a head but safe to it was well worth it. The highlights for us were the Sea Trout, Steak course and the Rhubarb dessert. The flavour across each course was superb and the wine paired perfectly. The New Zealand Sauv Blanc given with the Sea Trout and the Baron de Baussac with the Steak were both astonishing, I think we could easily have polished several bottles of them! The only problem, and I use that word very loosely, was the bread. We were given three different types of warm bread with the starters and informed they were for the whole meal. Obviously we had the bread throughout the meal, meaning the first one was lovely but by the last main course, it was cold. As far as problems go, it's not a big one (barely a small one! , maybe bring out the bread gradually through the meal? Overall, if you want to elevate your dining experience and go on an incredible flavour journey, you must pick Mortmers, it's awesome!
Absolutely perfect, cannot fault it, it’s just my style of restaurant, long may it continue., Thoroughly recommend
