What Kathryn S doesn't like about Z's Oyster Steak House:
I 'm so torn on this review. We visited at 8:00 on a Saturday and it was empty. We were literally told we could pick a table . The food was good but grossly overpriced for what it was. The service was mediocre. Honestly we felt as though we were about 20 years too late for this restaurants heyday. Overall, this was a superb meal experience. And we even got to meet the owner.
I 've been curious about Z 's for a while, and wanted to see how good it actually was. My one issue that kind of still annoys me is their Clam Chowder $8.95 which is not chowder but more of a potato soup. It was not bad for potato soup but without question, not a chowder. I am from New England and know good clam chowder... Union Oyster House in Boston...hands down the best if you are ever out that way We both ordered this, didn 't even finish it, and had it taken away instead. It was just an improper expectation you expect clam chowder and get potato soup, complete with scallions and bacon topping... odd! The waitress ended up leaving this on the check, which also surprised me since this is assumed to be 4 star dining, people refer to it as a really nice place so I had higher expectations. The rest of the meal was good though, so I 'll give it that. We ordered the Tiger shrimp to start, they are $5.50 per shrimp, so we got 4, which was good for 2 people. Then we went with the jumbo scallops $35.95 , and the Lobster tail Canadian Lobster $39.95 . Au Gratin Potatoes...wicked good, definite get $8.95 Both were prepared well, no issues with that. Only reason including prices, is so folks have an idea, as the menu does not list prices online either. I 'd rather know what I 'm walking into.
Last week we were at the Manufactured Home Show and made a last minute reservation at Z's. I was a little hesitant with 3.5 star rating and there were 12 of us but, after reading more recent views we confirmed and hoped for the best. We were absolutely blown away with the service and quality of food. James and Kayly took excellent care of us all. Fixing napkins, kept the beverages full, and their recommendations and knowledge of our food questions were top notch. The appetizer took a little long to finally come out to our table but, it was well worth the wait. We enjoyed two seafood towers and mushroom bruscetta and could not have been more pleased. That was a fantastic start to the rest of our amazing meal. Well Done Z's! PS...James deserves an extra pat on his back! Job well done.

The service was mediocre. Honestly we felt as though we were about 20 years too late for this restaurants heyday. It 's a shadow of what it must have been and rather than attempting to keep up the exclusive dinner club feel just embrace yourself as a casual steak joint and reprice accordingly. We won 't return unless there 's a massive rebranding.
I love the scallops they're nice big and juicy also the dinner was very good I love when they have special fish and the oysters are to great expensive but worth every penny.
