Many of the dishes feature stu... read more The ambiance of this family run seafood restaurant is casual, but someone in the kitchen has an imaginative hand with fresh fish. Many of the dishes feature stuffed snapper fillets in other words, a fillet spread with a mixture of vegetables and/or shrimp, rolled and deep fried, then topped with sauce. We split an order of the house specialty, stuffed with shrimp, spinach and celery and topped with a creamy pecan sauce. That may sound strange, but it worked. Sides of rice and lettuce salad made an agreeable contrast, and the view couldn't be beat we were right on the beach, a swath of fine buff colored sand ringing a pretty bay.

We tried other restaurants in La Manzanilla (including the much hyped Magnolias), but none compared to El Cato. Very recommend to get the coconut shrimp and watch the sunset, an unforgettable experience. The food is also consistently clean and there is no risk for the usual travel bugs that some of us foreigners pick up. Very recommended!
