Despite the current restrictions we are fortunate to be able to frequent this great cafeteria within walking distance of our home in Los Gallardos. Annexed to the local Repsol fuel station this establishment gives no hint of the quality to be found within the busy but calm interior. A mixed salad to share, together with bread, arrives without ordering and your first drink is included in the cost of €11 for a 3 course “menu del dia”. The menu is found on one side of a mobile chalk board with English translation of the dishes on the other side, and the dessert menu is on view at the back of the room. Arrive before 1.30 and you will probably dine alone but beware 2pm when a lot of local workers and tradesmen descend on this roadside cafe on a daily basis for their main meal of the day. The two waitresses work in tandem to ensure people are not kept waiting, and the owner works the bar area where you also pay the bill. Busy? Yes, Noisy? Yes, but for a “value for money” Spanish lunch experience Marene is one of the best around this part of Spain and if you don’t want lunch you can sit outside for drinks, breakfast or tapas.
Good value, Tapas ok,menu of the day 4 course for 10 Euros if you are hungry, basic inside, clean toilets
This was quite a surprise, in a very good way. We stopped for the menu del dia. We found it hard to park as the restaurant was very busy. A basic salad for the table was first. Drinks and a basket of bread was included. 1st course was toast with smoked fish, cuttle fish stew and mellon with ham. Some 1st course items were finished as we arrived about 2.30pm 2nd course was steak with chips, breaded squid with chips and breaded chicken with chips. Desert was german apple tart, strawberry pie and tiramisu. A coffee each to finish off. My favourite which was actually all our favourite was the toast with smoked fish.My wife's was her cuttle fish stew. My daughter's was her breaded chicken. The food was gorgeous for €10 each. Its worth diverting a couple of km to eat here. The men's toilet was a little scruffy and there was no hand wash. The women's toilets were ok and everything was in order.
