We ordered raw oysters and ribs, and unfortunately, we both ended up feeling ill. While the service was attentive, it seemed like the staff lacked proper training. The concept is fantastic, and the value is great, but it's simply not worth the risk of getting sick. View all feedback.
What Kimberly G doesn't like about Tokyo Hamburg:
It's passable I don't think I'd come here for food again though. The main draw is the hot stone gimmick, the food is pretty... average. The restaurant itself looks very divey, sticky floors and all. I ordered the cheese hamburg, which is a smaller portion than I was expecting for $17 (not pictured: chopped cabbage salad with mayo). I can't really talk about the food quality considering I cooked the hamburger myself (... View all feedback.
I had the raw oysters and the ribeye, and unfortunately, we both got sick afterwards. The service was attentive, but it seemed the staff lacked proper training. The concept is great, and the prices are reasonable, but it's just not worth the risk of getting sick.
The restaurant has a significant advantage with its own parking lot located just off the alley on 6th, especially considering the challenging parking situation in K-town. Inside, it can be a bit chilly due to the old brick structure. I highly recommend trying the udon combo with the katsu dishes; for just $5, you get a generous portion of extra food. The udon was delicious, and the pot stickers were a great addition too.
I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! I visited after a comedy show for some late-night snacks, and everything turned out to be excellent. The only disappointment was the banana makgoli; they were out of the regular version, and the banana flavor was overly sweet for my taste. I tried the hambug, mixed tempura, chicken katsu with curry, and the tuna tataki, and all of the dishes were delicious. We also sampled the milk teas, which were very good. I'm truly impressed and would definitely return!
Wanted to try something different and a bit quirky with the family Tokyo Hamburg seemed to fit the bill. It's in the K town and offers an interesting fusion of food. It was a rainy night and hardly anyone was in the restaurant we had the place to ourselves. Food quality is good not outstanding, but arguably very good. My daughter tried the classic Hamburg steak which is essentially a large ground beef meatball with some onions on the side that you cook yourself on a small cooking stone that is part of your plate. It's not your ordinary meatball, but well seasoned and very tasty. I had the rib eye katsu. It's an interested breaded, raw piece of steak served with a small, heated cast iron plate that you use to also cook your own meat. It was also very good. We also tried the cheese katsu and a cheese udon. All items were interesting and a bit quirky for us which as exactly what we were looking for that night. I'd go back just to experience the different food style and when wanting a change of pace.
What a chill vibesy spot! If you're solo eating or with a large group, this place is perfect. The original Hamburg was so delicious. The meat quality was outstanding. The service was lightening fast. Good music. Good beer. Good vibes.
