What Makayla Schneider doesn't like about Freddy Smalls Kitchen:
Get the fried brussel sprouts and the jar of pickles. I tried the red tea hi cocktail which was a variation of their Gin and Tea punch and I loved it. Great service, a few TVs for sports and tables to sit at as well as the bar area. I was there early 7pm so not sure how crowded this place gets, but I'm told it can be pretty busy weekend nights. After months of curiosity about what lies behind the trendy and cool exterior of this restaurant, my husband and I finally decided to check it out on a Friday evening at 9:00. The hostess quickly informed us that they prefer reservations due to their popularity, which was clear from the bustling atmosphere, but she was able to seat us right away. The food was outstanding, which was a relief since our drinks took quite a long time to arrive. My drink was incorrect, but the waitress was very apologetic and offered to replace it on the house. However, after we finished our meals, I declined the offer. Instead, she made a note of my husband's drink. Overall, the service was excellent—friendly and efficient. We’ll definitely be coming back!
I only visited for the food, and it was truly exceptional. Everything was cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor, and they had a fantastic selection of beer and whiskey! The staff were incredibly friendly and quickly accommodated our large party, including two children. I would recommend it any time!
The ambience of the restaurant is quite impressive. It's dimly lit, giving off a sleek, underground feel. They also offer outdoor seating on the terrace. I absolutely loved the Fried Brussels Sprouts with smoked goat cheese and apple wine glaze — such a fantastic and healthy side to enjoy with your drinks! There’s also parking available right in front. As for the service, I’d rate it 4 out of 5. We were seated and served quickly, and our food and drinks arrived in a reasonable amount of time.
I met a friend here to eat and drink, in the early evening. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our drinks, and I really liked the ambience of the place - until they turned on two large TVs that were hidden from the view over the bar. The food was good-- my friend had heard great things about the sprouts, so we ordered them, but both were a little disappointed with them (they were a bit soggier when I like it). However, the smokey roasted gripping potatoes were amazing and I would drive through the city to eat them again! We also enjoyed the steak sandwich and beet smoke salad.
I really like this place. The food is great and they have an awesome drinks menu. If you are like me, then you have to have the buffalo cup! It's such a great bourbon drink, but be careful. After one of those I am done for the night. The only reason I took off star is for the service. The bar service is amazing, but the table service is really bad. If you go with just two people I highly recommend sitting at the bar and not a table if you can.
