I hosted a private event for about 40 people at the Sidebar at Covell a couple weeks ago. The space worked out SO perfectly warm cozy and festive. The staff even let us move one of the elegant floral arrangements onto the side bar area for more flair! They allowed us to have an acoustic guitarist playing vintage bossa nova covers and provided us with mimosas aperol spritzes, plus Homestate tacos from next door. What Jace Conn doesn't like about Covell:
Very confused by this wine bar. Bartenders don’t seem to know the difference between wines, but they do know how to pour 4 wines in a row that taste like chemicals. Typical LA spot trying to be cool but actually failing at delivering. Beer was lovely though! View all feedback.
The wine at this restaurant was enjoyable. However, I was disappointed to learn that there was no menu available. Instead, I was told to inform the server of our preferences and he would bring us wine accordingly. When the bill arrived, I was surprised by the high price per glass. This cost was more in line with a 4-5 star restaurant, which this establishment was not. While it is a nice spot to meet a friend for a decent glass of wine in the area, I consider myself a discerning customer when it comes to dining out. I found the wine to be decent, but I did not appreciate feeling manipulated in terms of pricing. It is not about the cost, but rather the principle of transparency and honesty.
I really enjoyed the wine bar and seating area at this restaurant! The patio heaters outside created a great ambiance at night, perfect for people watching on the streets. Inside, there is mood lighting that gives off a cozy and intimate vibe. I tried the clam broth, ordered some bread (there was a charge for it), and had a glass of house red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon). The server recommended dipping the bread into the soup, and it was a fantastic pairing. The house bread was warm, flaky, and delicious. The wine was exactly what I expected, and I ended up ordering a second glass because it went so well with the bread and clam soup. I will definitely be returning to this cool spot in Hollywood!
I adore this hidden gem! It is charming, with reasonably priced drinks and very friendly staff. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because, while their food is good, it consists of mostly bar bites. It would be nice if they also offered entrees. However, this place is fantastic and I highly recommend it. Plus, the Stiegl beer is absolutely heavenly!
Really fun, intimate wine bar. Bartenders here give great guidance and advice. Wine is delicious.Food: 5/5
My first time here after reading about their interesting model, which essentially is rely on the recommendation of the bartender/sommelier. First, was there around 6pm on a Thursday and the place was packed the 2 seats we got were the last available and it stayed that way until we left close to 8pm. Very friendly sommeliers. As prescribed, he asked what type of wine I liked. I gave a fairly detailed description and the returned with 3 options for us to taste. All 3 of the options provided were on point with what I had described I liked, including some creative ones a Langhe Nebbiolo, a Langhe Fresa and an Arbois Trousseau. Great energy and vibe to the bar. While we did not eat, I checked out their menu and it offered a great range of food to complement the wine offered.
