I generally appreciate an eclectic vibe, but this felt a bit too disjointed, and a large leather lounge chair in one corner stood out as quite the curiosity. This location has seen its share of restaurants over the years—some memorable and others just mediocre. Regrettably, Lucy's didn't even reach the level of "just okay." The menu included typical items, but with some notable omissions. They offered chopped pork, chicken, and hot dogs, but no sliced brisket or fries. When I placed my order, I was asked if I'd prefer Texas or NC style BBQ. When I inquired about the difference, I was told it was merely the sauce the pork was soaked in. To me, Texas BBQ means brisket, not just a sweet ketchup-based sauce. The sides were BBQ beans, spicy green beans, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and potato salad. I opted for a BBQ platter at $11.95, requesting mac and cheese, which was not available, so I went with BBQ beans and coleslaw instead. Beverly ordered a BBQ sandwich with coleslaw and potato salad for $7.95. I sensed trouble when my platter arrived in a plastic basket usually meant for fries, which also held a small bowl of BBQ beans and coleslaw. The beans resembled canned pork and beans but tasted even less flavorful. Despite pouring half a bottle of Texas sauce into them, they still lacked appeal. The coleslaw was chopped so finely it was nearly baby food in texture, and once again, it was devoid of seasoning. As for the BBQ pork, it was so finely chopped that I could hardly tell where it came from. Again, the only flavor came from the sauce it was simmered in, which I had to douse excessively in a desperate attempt to improve my meal. Overall, it seemed like no one in the kitchen knew how to cook with even a bit of salt, pepper, or spices to bring some flavor to the food. I've enjoyed plenty of fantastic BBQ over the years, and unfortunately, this wasn't among them. For a lunch costing $28.80 with a tip, I expected at least decent and appetizing food, but that wasn’t the case. We won't be returning to Lucy's, and unless they make some significant improvements, it seems likely there will be yet another restaurant at that location for us to explore in the near future.
