working nearby I have been here on numerous occasions for lunch, the venue is very nice tucked away in a courtyard in the city with lovely domed ceilings. the food is always of excellent quality with a changing menu, I would describe it as french british with focus on meat or fish. Service is smart and unobtrusive with a good selection of wines available. Overall an excellent little gem in the city View all feedback.
What AmyO doesn't like about Jamies Suffolk Lane:
Booked a table for dinner. Called ahead to ask to be put in the restaurant area as I knew there would probably be Xmas parties on (visited on 15 Dec) I was told it was fine so they were aware I was there for dinner. Arrived to find my table in the bar, on the outskirts of a Xmas party. Then went to order food and was told the kitchen was closed as they had a party on. I absolutely understand that Xmas parties are tak... View all feedback.
Beautiful looking place, but the food was w poor we both had the double cheeseburger, it was like something from a road transporter on the autobahn. greasy, gray and a strange small band from cheese. halloumi fries ok, but not great.
I work nearby and popped in for lunch. Had a selection of small plates and a flatbread which I shared with my colleague. The halloumi fries are amazing!! All the food was tastyand served promptly. The waiter was friendly. Will be back!
We went for lunch during the week. After half an hour I asked whether our starters could be brought out soon and also whether the main meal could follow in quick succession given that the food was taking a while. The waitress seemed surprised that...I was following up on where the food was. It was frustratingly slow service for a weekday lunch. I had to get up and go and find the waitress to pay. The food was good but make sure you have more than an hour for lunch if you go here.
I realise that rents and rates in this part of the world are high and restaurants need to make a living, but the sandwiches here are not good. I had a beef sandwich. Said sandwich was made with very thick cut granary bread, which would...have been nice if it had some butter on it, but as dry bread I found it difficult to swallow and left most of it on the plate. The bread also felt slightly stale to the touch as if it had been sitting around for a while. In between these two doorsteps was ONE uber-thin slice of supermarket deli counter overcooked roast beef. Horseradish was barely there. This sandwich simply had no flavour. Chips were very nice, but not good value for the price tag. Not a happy lunch experience and won't be returning I'm afraid.
Its a nice venue though largely filled with middle aged men with not much lid left. I had a hoisin duck sandwich which was essentially dry bread flavored with duck dust and some long dead spring onions. They had no specials and had run out...of the burgers on an already pretty empty menu. Not again
