My absolute favourite sushi place in London. I love the laid back atmosphere and the fact that the menu is regularly updated – the crispy salmon, tuna and tamago tempura roll is one of my absolute favourites, but I strongly recommend the Californian maki and the tuna. If you love calamari, the baby squid is also delicious. View all feedback.
What CJTW doesn't like about Feng Sushi:
The sushi is good, as is the sashimi, others things are okay. I have been here a few times and the thing that lets it down is the poor service, they just don't seem to want to be there, and they know nothing about the food. The fish always tastes fresh and that is what makes this better than the other sushi places (yo etc). If you want to grab some food on the way to the theatre then its a good place for a pit-stop,... I ordered online from Feng Sushi and it was quite an adventure, but not in a good way. From start to finish, it was a complete mess. The bill was very expensive and I have never been so disappointed by sushi before. It seemed like they were low on rice, so they mixed it with wheat grains, which gave it a terrible taste. The miso soup was average at best and the tatakis were poorly cooked. I would recommend going to a competitor for better quality salmon. Also, make sure to provide fresh ingredients in the box, as we didn't even touch the sashimi. Overall, it was a very negative experience and I won't be treating myself to sushi from there again.
Although the food was decent, the restaurant itself was not pleasant. It felt rushed and anything but relaxing. We were in and out in just 35 minutes, which was not the leisurely pre-concert meal experience we had hoped for.
Had been planning 'sushi in London ' for a while. Came across this place by chance. Thought the menu looked good so popped in. Nice and small. Helpful staff. Lovely food. The only shame was that the sharing plates were only available for delivery : Other than that, very good. Decent price. Would probably return if in the area :
Have been a few times over the years. The food is good basic Japanese but the service is always on the slow side even when the small restaurant is not busy. Took ages this time to get the dessert and the coffee came first which is always unacceptable. To their credit, they gave us the dessert in a takeaway box at no cost, so that was a nice gesture
**** food, dreadful service and uninspiring surroundings. There were chunks of plaster coming off the wall, and cobwebs and grime on the bathroom mirror. We ordered a starter to share and two mains. One main came out on its own and we assumed that it couldn't be ours as we'd only ordered 10 minutes ago. Then we had a bit of a to-do with the waitress, who said that it was ours, and if we had wanted our starter to come first, we should have said. She then brought the starter out first at our insistence, but clearly the mains had already been cooked and were just kept humming away under a hot plate – when they arrived immediately afterwards they were tepid and had a thick skin on the top. The empty plates from our starter were left on our table. The chicken katsu curry was really grim – a glorified chicken nugget with a gloopy and flavourless chip-shop sauce, and my friend didn't finish her tempura curry either. All this time the service was sullen and dismissive, and as the people next to us were also complaining about a missing order, so the atmosphere was pretty lacklustre for a Thursday night. I had previously been to the Feng Sushi in West Hampstead, which had a considerate and interesting proprietor and was a lovely place to eat – this is nothing like it. With so many options around Waterloo, you'd be better off going to a mass market chain like Wagamama for the price. At the very least, the food would be hot, and you wouldn't have your bill flung at you.
