What Philr doesn't like about Browns - Kingston:
The restaurant appears rundown and worn out, with a faded and dirty exterior sign. The interior is slightly better, but the service we received from our server during a not very busy Saturday lunch was extremely poor. View all feedback.
Probably the worst dining experience in any restaurant ever! 7 of us including my friend’s young 1 year old.We had just sat down when the “manager” Daniel (who requires more training on his people skills) came over to us and said “just to let you know, there are twins sleeping” (directing his comments to my friend and her 1 year old son). We asked him what his point was and he was very rude and blasé and said again “There are twins sleeping”. We had literally been in the restaurant all of 5 mins! To talk rudely and imply we need not to talk or keep our kids quiet (when they had not said a thing) is extremely rude and put a sour taste in our mouths. We promptly got up and left the establishment. Even the staff were embarrassed and apologised on their “manager’s” behalf. Lucky for us Cotes had availability, amazing food and amazing staff! Browns could learn a lot them and really need to look the people they hire. I suggest demotion to waiter and full retraining for 12 months so that Daniel can understand how to interact with people especially those eating at his establishment.
We had booked a table for five people for lunch. Two of our party got stuck in traffic and arrived 30mins late. We knew that was to happen and advised our waitress. She couldn’t have been more friendly and simply advised we started with some olives while waiting. When our party was fully complete we were all impressed by the quality and presentation of the food. Would definitely go again!
We went here for the New Year's Eve set menu, it was really good and the waitress was super. Will definitely come back to dine off a set menu for a themed night in future.
Having booked a reservation at Browns because of the two courses for £11.95 promotion shown through Open Table. We were really disappointed to be told this offer was not valid after 7pm, even though Open Table promote this offer after 7 and it was included on my confirmation email. Browns wouldn't honour the promotion which in my opinion is false advertising. The food and waiter were nice but I feel the restaurant should have honoured the promotion as it is a mistake made by them. Had we known, I would have booked an earlier table. Open Table should check all offers they are marketing through their app are correct to avoid disappointed diners.
It was my friends birthaday which I mentioned when booking. Was not acknowledged at all, even a candle in dessert or a complimentary liquer after the meal. It was so noisy as well as next to a huge table and there were only 3 of us so hard to speak and listen to each other.
