Was Charles R at Whistle Stop a mag?
If you don't like this bar you're ridiculous. The people are awesome. The bartender is friendly. The karaoke is fun. The beer is cold. I hear the burgers are awesome.this is my first visit... I'll be back. View all feedback.
What Bernadette R dislikes about Whistle Stop:
Best patty melt in town. The fries were limp. It's too bad because it made a good experience not so great. Great dive bar which I like so that was fine. Pictures on the walls of previous patrons who had passed away. Nice touch. View all feedback.
Is this place still open? It looked closed to me on a Monday night (5/14/2018). I was really disappointed because my out-of-town friends were looking for some bar food and a good drink before heading home. I had driven past this place countless times and finally decided to give it a try, only to end up having a mediocre dinner somewhere else (check out my previous review, lol).
This is the best bar in town! I grew up in Lompoc, and whenever I visit, The Whistle is my go-to spot for casual drinks and a game of pool. Forget about high school reunions or the sketchy scenes at the other bars on lower H Street. If you appreciate good company, strong drinks, and tasty tater tots, this is your place. The Whistle is like Lompoc's own "Cheers." The bartenders are super friendly, and Rocky and Cookie are truly the best! I can't express how much I love this spot; I've had some unforgettable nights there, including meeting the amazing man I'm with today! However, if you're looking to hook up or dance the night away, or if you're just after someone to validate your insecurities, PLEASE go elsewhere! There’s no time for that here; The Whistle is all about enjoying a good drink with good people.
The restaurant operates on a cash-only basis, and we took turns paying for rounds. Since I planned to cover my meal at the end of the night, I wasn’t tipping for each round. However, when I approached her to settle my final bill, she rudely commented, "You girls better learn how to tip." This struck me as incredibly disrespectful. A tip is voluntary, and I was more than willing to offer one, but her attitude made it hard to feel good about it. I did leave a tip, but it was clear she wasn’t very friendly. I wanted to clarify that I would never leave without paying my bill or tipping, as I consider myself a decent person, but she simply brushed me off. It’s obvious that she isn’t interested in attracting new customers, which is unfortunate, as most of her clientele seemed quite elderly. The food was decent, but it certainly wasn’t worth the trouble of such rude treatment.
