Contribute Feedback What Cecelia Weimann doesn't like about JJ Korean Kitchen BBQ:
It used to be good food there but it has really pushed me away from this place today. I took mum and dad there today for lunch. I order bibimbap for dad and cool noodle for mum. The bibimbap was served in a ceramic bowl with very plain taste. I asked the girl is the bibimbap supposed to serve in a hot stone dish? She said they don't have hot stone dish. But the two other tables were seating next to us somehow has two... View all feedback.
Weekday dinner strolling through Plaza and somehow landed at JJ’s. After reviewing their vast and somewhat confusing menu, we ordered: seafood pancake, single serve hot pot bulgogi & ox tail soup. The restaurant was on the quite, dark and moody side with no TV or k-pop. With only three other customers around, the vibe was depressing to say the least. Side dishes arrived with snack size serving of kimchi, caramelized sweet potato cubes & pasta salad. The sweet potato and pasta was average at best but the kimchi was another story. You see, most Korean restaurants in Brisbane bulk buy kimchi from food factories. Taste wise is always on the over pickled, sour & if you’re not lucky salty side. The Kimchi here was fresh, fragrant with dried seafood taste and lightly pickled to retain the Chinese cabbage sweetness. This is by far the best Kimchi I have ever had in Brisbane! Overall side dish score: 4/5 With my mood lifted, the seafood pancake arrived. The generous pizza size serving was pan fried to golden brown with squid, prawns and garlic chives. The pancake was crispy, lightly oily with mild seafood taste. The batter was flavoursome with a pleasant buttery scent. Paired with apple vinegar dipping sauce with hot mustard, it made an appetising start to the meal. 4/5 Ox tail soup was next to arrive, containing thick cut ox tail meat, thin noodle & chopped spring onions all simmered in a milky stock. The ox tail meat was falling off the bone tender with big beefy taste. The soup on the other hand although complemented the meat nicely, lacked seasoning. 3.5/5 Last dish for the nite was bulgogi hotpot. The big bowl of happiness contains marinated beef, onion, mushrooms, capsicum & Korean glass noodles all in a sweet soy soup. The meat was tender and well marinated. Paired with chewy glass noodle and rice, I was taken to comfort food territory. 4/5 Service wise was a bit average. Food came quick and side dishes were refilled without hassle. The waitress was not a happy vegemite and quite impatience during ordering. English communication is another area which needs attention. 3/5 To be honest, we have been avoiding JJ’s for a number of years. Mainly to do with the depressing decoration and dark lighting at nite. To our surprise, the food we tried so far has been quite good. We will surely revisit in the near future. Hint: Side dish refills are complementary. JJ's daily specials presents great value for money.

Like seriously... I think rating them1.0 is even too much for them. I went this place with my family ordered food. AND THE FOOD TASTED OFF. All my family member tasted and agreed that it was off. So we got the waitress to come over and asked to smell it and she was even disgusted after she smelled it so she took it back tot he kitchen and then never cameback. Not even cam back for a "sorry." I wont blame anything to the waitress cuz its not her fault but the way how the owner runs the restaurant. You guys should be ashamed and frustrated about your restaurant. Legally this PLACE SHOULD CLOSE. Please people dont go if you dont wanna get food poison...
The food is alright here, reasonably priced. Ordered Donkatsu, cold noodle and soft tofu stew. It says mild on the menu but it's literally zero spice (as indicated in Chinese). The only thing is the kimchi pieces were fairly small with heaps of sauce, so not sure if normal or felt like we were getting the leftover bits at the end of the container. Tasted ok though. The only thing is there's something amiss with the ambience. We came on a pretty busy weekday. The interior looks good but on closer look it feels rather cheap, like the wallpaper and flooring. They have a large TV but it wasn't on. The LO can cope without a high chair these days but the height of the chair and table doesn't match making the table much higher than usual for her. There's two high chairs so for a busy day we had to wait till one was available. instagram.com
Authentic and unpretentious, JJ Korean Kitchen really hits the spot for quality BBQ meats and standard Korean classics (if you are able to overlook the cheap decor ) of this little establishment. Furthermore, they offer special "dishes of the day" ranging from 30% off main meals to soup dishes discounted to a very affordable $9.90 special. Never having tried ox-tail soup before, I was pleasantly surprised at the collagen-rich, healthy bone broth that featured tender morsels of ox-tail meat delectably falling off the bone. Like all Korean eateries, you can expect the standard side dishes comprised of kimchi, pasta and candied potato which nicely complement your main dish. My brother ordered the Wagyu slices and beef brisket which were decent serving sizes and quality meats compared to the numerous other Korean restaurant offerings in Sunnybank. The only negative which unfortunately is a significant one, is that of the service. Not in the way of rudeness, length of time for the food to be served or attitude but a language-barrier which lead to one of my eating companions dish not having been served (despite being ordered). While our waitress was lovely, she could not understand basic English and perhaps should have been allocated to Korean and Chinese patrons only. Despite this setback the food we did order and receive was delicious, and gives me enough reason to come back for a cheap weekday meal.
