This place has been more or less consistent for me. Staff usually have trouble with English, but that's to be expect in Sunnybank and pointing never worked out bad for me. Love their beef noodles. View all feedback.
What Johanna Champlin doesn't like about Hometown Cafe:
Waste of money!. Definately not going back here. Ordered a noodle soup was basically noodles in water and also ordered pork belly and the pork was overcooked. That dish was just completely dry. Waste of my time and money. View all feedback.
Totally agree with Jimi and Take a Bite! The restaurant was completely empty when we went there during lunch time. No greetings, waitresses were behind the counter laughing and talking. Used to love going to Hometown for their beef noodles but the noodles I had today is definitely not Taiwanese! The dish only few pieces of beef with 4 stalks of choy sum and tons of MSG. No preserved vege, shallot nor beansprouts. Definitely won't be going back again!
I had a worst service when I visited this restaurant The waitress were no greetings (this is fine with me) But chatting behind the counter so loud when I walked in. The food (rice was half cooked). While having the meal they still chatting and laughing so loud. I felt so bad. The food they provide is so-call Taiwanese cousins. It's more Chinese style (china). It's not real Taiwanese style. On the other hand, after changed ownership, their food has dropped below the standard.
This place used to be a decent Taiwanese restaurant, but our experience tonight was a total disappointment! It's been a while since my last visit I wonder if there has been a change of ownership. We were here on a Saturday night when most restaurant in Sunnybank are at least 80% packed (if not a line outside) this Hometown Cafe was near empty and we thought we were lucky to have the spaces all to ourselves. But.... the food they serve is pure stingy! Ridiculous small amount of meat with... well... quite a lot of rice and soggy veggie that was probably cooked in the afternoon and reheated. Wish I had taken a photo but my husband was too hungry so I missed the photo opportunity :( I've learned that when there's not many people in a restaurant in a peak hour that's a pretty good sign to say "Run for your life and never come back!!!"
Must have just changed owner. Used to be okay, but now it is just BAD... Many of the dishes and sidedishes are precooked, soggy and tasteless. But my real concern is today I ordered a Three Cup Chicken meal, and it came out with 4 pieces of tiny chicken of the size smaller than 20 cent coin. Yes only FOUR TINY pieces! The rest was steamed rice. Just plain RIDICULOUS. Never again am I going back again. They just lost a long term customer for good. I wonder how they can even open door for business!
