Contribute Feedback What Annabel Upton doesn't like about Gala Barbecue Spicy Hotpot:
The negative impact from the Just carried on last night so we went for the real one in Sunnybank to have bbq skewer. Unfortunately, it only serves a la cart dishes but no bbq skewer any more, so sadHaving said that it gave us a big surprise on what they did last night. We ordered a wonton soup, braised razor clams, chicken hearts with cumin and baked string beans. Portions of chicken hearts and the clams were a shock.... View all feedback.
Visited tonight and we had lamb skewers and stir fried shell fish. Flavour was ok, however every single shell fish in the dish had sand in it! I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE! Reported to the owner and guess what they said? 'This is how we eat it (with sand), we cant refund or swap for you, sorry.' Regardless of the flavour and price etc., being a food outlet, they are not doing the basic stuff right. We also had someone next to us smoking there, while the No Smoking sign is half meter away.
This really feels like an Asian street food experience in every sense. Eating under a shelter overlooking the bare concrete driveway leading to the Hi Fresh supermarket and the little Taipei food court. The lamb skewers were well spiced with cummin which I love, a little chilli heat would make it even better. Their other grilled dishes and noodles are also pretty good, and cheaply priced.
What a disappointing experience. Starting off they don't have a English menu. The selection of 'hotpot' is very poor of having only two choices to choose from, everything or vegetarian. With 'Hotpot' in the restaurant name it's also misleading as its served like noodles in a bowl. The noodle / broth was too salty and lacked a lot with its small portions of ingredients and a few pieces of processed spam meat. We were all hoping the bbq items in the menu would make up for the disappointing visit. Had the corn which was nice, but there lamb skewers! Having to wait literary 30mins for 2 skewers was certainly a joke! What made it worst was they were bland with no flavour or spices plus the lamb lacking that lamb flavour, is it really lamb?.. To finish off the experience, with signs outside stating 'no smoking', there was a table beside us smoking. Mentioned this to staff and nothing was done. Defiantly won't be returning or recommending.
This restaurant located at previous Deep Fired Master next to the High Fresh Supermarket. Not a new born baby but eventually arranged to have dinner last night. Honestly, it gave me a very strong feeling of street-food theme since there are only al fresco dining area available. Definitely, it is a self-service system (what do you expect for street-food style?), menu mainly covers BBQ skewers with additional idea of Cayenne Pepper Hotpot. Ordered their signature spicy hotpot, Lamb skewers and a BBQ Squid. Dishes were ready on the tables in short period of time and the hotpot came with quite a large portion with lots of ingredients (for $11.00, it is a bargain). Lamb skewers was rich in cumin, which is my favourite. Squid was done perfectly and we put extra order for two BBQ chicken wings (only $2.00 each), which was pre-cooked and then put on the BBQ stove. I don't mind the way that they prepared the chicken wings, which shortens the preparation time and delivers soft texture inside with crispy, crunchy and spicy skin. Overall, it is a local gem.....Highly recommended.
