We went here tonight for tea, as there was no food in the house. Closest Chinese to me. We ordered chicken curry without mushrooms, egg fried rice, and a portion of chips. The chicken curry was quite fruity, good tasting. However, the chicken tasted cheap and tough. The egg fried rice and chips were decent. Massive portion definitely good value for money. It cost 6.80 pounds for all of this.
The acid test for me at any restaurant or chip shop is the quality of the meat. Whether it's beef, chicken, or pork, you never get those horrible pieces of cartilage that characterize restaurants that cut corners. The curries and vegetarian meals are also excellent. The other day, while browsing through a few minutes away, I checked the Yip Ho website on the city council's food safety ratings. It didn't surprise me that they were awarded 5 out of 5 stars - the highest mark available. It is very rare for me to have any complaints against a chip shop or restaurant, but I can honestly say that since I became aware of Yip Ho a few years ago, I have never had any issues. In addition to excellent food, the staff is very friendly, and yes, the portions are also generous. My advice to anyone visiting or living in Liverpool is to add Yip Ho to your list.
