Great spot for sit down sushi and casual date night! Our waiter was quirky and liked to interact with the guest on more friendly level which gave the restaurant a homey feel. The fish was pretty fresh and food came out decently quick. Toro Uni Ikura Don: Tasted fine but was a little disappointed with what was included in the bowl. There was only a small singular piece of uni and the toro was not very fatty as all. Pe... View all feedback.
What ThisSuda Wn doesn't like about Tara Japanese Cuisine:
I went here for dinner. I ordered fluck carpaccio but they didnt have fluck and hamachi, so we got scallop instead. To me, raw scallop and grape tomato wasnt really a good pair, also each scallop got one salmon roe seemed to cheap to be honest. Also, smoked toro is a one bite size just so u know, and it is finely chopped. Overall, taste of food was fine but over priced forwhat they serve. I ordered four different dish... View all feedback.
I am a regular customer at Tara and I am a huge fan of their sushi. The Omakase set was fantastic and I highly recommend trying it!
First of all, if you want to make a reservation (especially for weekend dinner), make sure CALL to reserve a table. We used google and then they could not find our reservation. They should just turn off the function on Google or Yelp reservation. Just saw other reviewer had the same problem. Therefore, the first impression was unwelcoming. We luckily sat down before the restaurant became full later of the evening. We quickly ordered hot sake to start the night, but the hostess brought us a jar of sake bathing in ice. I was so shocked and this made my face wrinkled up though the hostess immediately apologized and fixed it. We ordered 16 course omakase set $138, 1 sushi set $42, 1 sashimi set $42. Overall appetizers for omakase is creative and pretty, and fish is so fresh. You can taste two Hokkaido uni dish, one in the starter and one on sushi. It is really worthy of the price. I'd give 5 stars for the omakase. Sushi and sashimi sets are both good and fresh, but they come with low quality of wasabi that looks like green food coloring mashed stuff. The ambiance is casual and warm. The manager engaged with every table, such as giving complimentary beer or making Gin tonic with Roku gin, my favorite and the best gin from my perspective. It is a nice touch. Everything went well until paying the bill. They charged extra 4% credit card service alongside tax regular 18% of service. We were clueless about cash payments preferred here. However we only had $100 in the wallet. Tips for you who want to try:1. Call the phone line to make a reservation 2. Order omakase so you can have real wasabi3. Bring enough cash
Great place to go with a group of friends. High quality sushi in Queens. If you're lucky the owner may decide to give everyone a sake bomb. Squid legs were really good too!Food: 5/5
Not my first time here but what a gem. I ordered from the specials, crispy rice toro, monkfish, foie gras toast, sashimi for two (premium special) and a bunch of starters and they were all fantastic. Every cut was fatty or high quality, with rare pieces like toro kama. The service was excellent and staff was friendly with great sense of humor. Definitely best local sushi places in the neighborhood. Would've given 4 1/2 stars if i can.
This is the place to be. The sushi is fresh and tastes amazing. Omakase is a must. The service is great, they really make you feel welcomed. Love it here
