We called in for the formule on a Saturday (market day), which, at 10.80 euros for three courses and coffee is amazingly good value. The starter was pate en croute (lots of it) followed by the plat du jour of blanquette de veau (delicious) and a choice of desserts. I had the creme brulee, which was good and my wife enjoyed a generous helping of isle flotante. Service was accurate and friendly and it was fun to sit in... View all feedback.
What Steve P doesn't like about Le grand cafe:
Arrived at just before 1pm after a long hot drive. Ordered omlettes first, but waiter said Non . Saw sign for Salades, one of which just served, looked good, so ordered 2 Salades. He said Non dinner finished!! We had already ordered 2 small beers, so drunk those and paid. Whilst waiting he took orders from other French people. I gathered he didn 't like English. We are in **** Europe, aren 't we. A truly shocking exp... View all feedback.
Don't go! welcome deplorable!!! especially the two of the bar... no tact, no politeness. If you don't like people, don't work in a hotel!!!! Run!
We made a stop in Lisieux for a couple of hours and after walking around for a bit, we were getting hungry and thirsty and saw this cafe and decided to have lunch here because it was in a nice location and others were there so it was probably okay. We sat down outside to enjoy the location. The waitress took our drink order and we asked for the menu so we could eat. A few minutes later when she returned with our drinks and the menus, there came a larger group of people, and the waitress asked for us to move so she could seatt them together, which not have been a problem, except she then proceeded to ignore us almost completely. It took her 20 minutes just to take our food order, she took their larger group's order first even though we tried to get her attention a couple of times before she asked them what they wanted to eat. She got my husband's order wrong but was away so quickly we couldn't complain and we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes to get the right food as she was totally uninterested waiting on our table because we were very hungry at that point so we would have eaten whatever she put in front of us. Even when we tried to get her attention to pay, she ignored us again so we had to go inside to pay. I have never had worse service in a country were I speak the language. I could have somewhat understood the rudeness if we didn't speak French because she didn't understand us but we both speak French and no one else in the 12 days were in the country seemed to have issues understanding us. On top of the very poor service and the wrong meal for my husband, the food was only okay. There was no excuse that there weren't enough people working because they had plenty of wait staff and there were not many people sitting inside. The only nice thing about it was the location and the prices were okay.

Food was ok. Service was great. Prices were excellent! I had my 1st croque monsieur, so I don't have much to compare to.
Perfect! Very good reception and crumble pie made of delicious house!
