We were warmly welcomed by the owner of this creperie who talked to us in English when we struggled with our French. He made excellent suggestions as to the food and drink we had and we ended up having a wonderfully tasty meal washed down with local cider. View all feedback.
What Rachel Cook doesn't like about Creperie les Bles d'Or:
On our way to visiting the Basilica we wanted to stop and have a light lunch. The restaurant was busy but there were tables free and a couple were leaving as we walked in the door. We patiently waited for the proprietor to take payment from another couple and then politely requested a table for two (en Français). All he could utter was pas de place and continued to serve other diners. There was a group of three poten... View all feedback.
We happened upon this place after wandering around Lisieux and not finding anywhere particularly enticing. Never having tried galetts before we thought we'd give it a go - and boy are we glad we did!The owner was very welcoming and friendly and explained the different dishes (and the fact that he's worked in hospitality in England for some years). The place was packed with locals - always a pretty good sign. The food was came quickly, was beautifuly presented, plentiful, absolutely delicious and very well priced at around 10-12 Euros, with plenty of choices to choose form including daily specials and a strong focus on using organic ingredients. The best - and cheapest - meal we had in 5 days in Normandy, and I can't say fairer than that!
This restuarant is located clsore to the town at the base of the hill up to the imposing Basilica. The owner Maitre'D was a great host - spoke grea English and was so keen to describe how thuings were made and where they we sourced "All home made and Organic"we sat out on the small platform in the street and watched the world chug past and whilst the restaurant filled up with mostly locals.Between the three of us we had an impressive Fondue - local cheeses and cider and a whole host of crudities to dip. Also the Galettes were great - An Indian Chicken was a really good delicate and well balanced dish. Great value for money, great food, great host. A bientot!
We had lunch there yesterday and it was very nice. Friendly welcome, good food we had the 10€ lunch menu. With starter of salad for my husband and a galette as main, and I tasted the sweet crepes for dessert. All made with organic product very tasty. We stopped ther on the way up to the basilica it was a great break highly recommend
Good Galette's and very traditional French fare. VERY helpful and friendly owner/ operator!
Delicious!! It was late when we set out for dinner. Unfornatuatley your choices to eat later are limited, unless you made reservations as most closed. We popped our head in the door and asked if they had a table they were very busy but gave the three of us their last table. We had their set menu which is outstanding. Salad, entre, dessert and cider for $16 euros. The owner spoke English and explained the dishes. He was very patience and helped us make excellent choices. I would go back again and make a reservation for sure.
