A hidden jewel in Alvalade. This restaurant should definitely be visited if you are nearby, the food is exceptional. The must-try dish here should be the pork cheek stew, it won awards in this restaurant and you will understand why after tasting. Other dishes were pleasant, the staff was great and also the ambience.

The ambience is extremely pleasant: small and cosy with a horse themed decoration; and though on average the service and food were fine, some events derailed the experience. We asked for a table and once we were given one the couvert (bread, homemade garlic butter and olives) was promptly brought to us, the waiter however didn 't bring us a menu, and only after 5mins (and a fixed looking on my part) later did another waiter realized that we were waiting for it. We eventually made our order: a starter of pork pudding with scrambled eggs, and as mains a cutlet of veal, an alheira and two tuna steaks (both rare). We also ordered our drinks, and another tiny mistake happened, I had asked for a Bohemia Porter, and was given a Bohemia Bock, but since I also enjoy that one I didn 't say anything. While we waited for the starter we tried the homemade butter with they 'd brought to table and it was good as was the bread they had selected. We didn 't have to wait much for the scrambled eggs. They were beautifully presented, it would 've been a shame to eat them had they not taste as good as they did. Smooth and well seasoned they complemented the pork pudding perfectly. Not long after we 'd finished the starter, our mains were brought and it was at this point that we started to note some more serious blunders. The waiter brought the cutlet and the alheira uneventfully, but once she brought the first tuna steak she asked for whom the well-done steak was... we declined it being for our table since we 'd asked for two rare steaks. The waiter walked back with that dish and returned not a minute after and served us two tuna steaks, one had obviously been fidget with (we assumed they 'd tried to check the cooking point). This was a bit suspicious, so I immediately cut my steak in half only to find it well-done, this prompted the other tuna steak recipient to the same and find the same thing. I called the other waiter, refused those steaks and asked for new ones. Not long after the new steaks came. We check and they were in fact rare, so we started to eat our main. Now other issues raised, both steaks had some scales left in them, the middle was cold and the tuna 's flavor was mild and lacking that iron punch it usually has. All these pointed to the steaks not having been properly defrosted, which isn 't understandable given that the tuna steak was referenced in that day 's suggested mains. It wasn 't horrible, but it was extremely disappointing given the expectations raised by the starter dish. I tried a bit of the other mains, and these seemed to have been better prepared. The alheira was good, the veal was really soft and tasty (even despite my friend having asked for it to be well-done), and the french fries were simply perfect. I don 't know what happened with those tuna steaks. Was it a lack of service prep? Poor communication on the part of the first waiter? Maybe a bit of both. One thing is certain, the decision of knowingly bring well-done steaks after we had reiterated that we had asked for rare steaks was poor. No one cared to ask if 'd enjoyed the food, or the experience even. The management demonstrated this way troubles me for what happens that we can 't see, which doesn 't make me comfortable to return. A shame.

A varied menu and smilly employees! You can eat food from North and centre of Portugal at a very good price! Try the “Joaquinzinhos com arroz de grelos”. It is superb!!! Don’t tell the tourist crowd : ! You will love it! The wine list is not a bit one but you can get a good Douro wine. Ask the waiter!
