This restaurant in a suburb far away from the tourists has turned me on to Portuguese food again. After feeling that it was stodgy, Case e Ceontros made me think again by serving up dish after dish of beautifully seasoned food. The starters we shared were beans (with a dressing I've never had before that made them light and lemony); peppers, mushrooms, cheese and bread. The cheese was fresh and mild perfect for a starter. For our main course we shared a plate of hare and bean stew much less heavy than it sounds and a plate of pork tenderloin with the restaurant's simple oil, vinegar, and coriander dressing. Delicious. The chocolate cake was more of a fondant melting off the plate and wonderful. We named our price range for the wine, and the bottle of red the waiter recommended was perfect.
We arrived at 7:30 and the person who greeted us waived us downstairs with no smile and no greeting. We speak English but try to speak as much Portuguese as we can. Our server brought over someone to answer our questions in English, which was nice but not essential. No one smiled or even said tudo bem? or como estas? The food was average. Food and wine are overpriced and we know because we live in Portugal.
