Was Anonym at Manuelino a mag?
After a very arrival in Lisbon we had dinner here as it was adjacent to our hotel. We asked for the waiter for suggestions on food and wine. Everything was excellent. The food, service and wine knowledge. View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Manuelino:
Service was ok. Feel bad for the waitress. Food arrives at different times. Don't have tonic for Gin . Vine on the menu the restaurant don't have. Food was not good. All in all sad experience. View all feedback.
Firstly, our New Year 's Eve confirmed online reservation was nowhere to be found, and apparently there were other guests in that same predicament. And although the restaurant was not completely full, we had to wait in a waiting area quite a while for the staff to set up tables. It may be fair to say that the restaurant was understaffed for a busy evening. Nevertheless, all personnel were more than pleasant, so they get good marks for that. The garlic prawn (8€ were commendably large and plentiful, with pretty good flavour. Alas, they arrived cold, which definitely detracted from their appeal. Again, probably due to insufficient staff on this evening. We asked for a seafood stew for two (25€ , but got instead the monkfish stew. We could not be bothered to ask them to correct the order. We got two smallish pieces of fish, with lots of pasta, in a sauce that was pretty bland overall. Not for the first time in Portugal we were disappointed with such a dish, as every Seafood Rice we 've ever had is nothing but a bland concoction. We are repeatedly at a loss to understand how a dish that should be full of flavour can come out so tasteless. Dessert was a so-called cheesecake , which was a large dessert glass with a mixture of stuff , some of which was probably fresh cheese. CheeseCAKE it was not, but tasty it was. The meal was accompanied by a litre of pretty good sangria; commendably not over-sweetened. All in all, in spite of the disappointing main course, we likely will try this place again. Hopefully a less busy evening will produce better results.

On Rua dos Jeronimos, No. 12,, just one half block up the hill from Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. This quick walk gets you out of the tourist madhouse and crowded restaurant cluster around the Mosteiro. We enjoyed the codfish salad and the monkfish stew, but would advise a pass on the sea soup . The place gets busy after 2 PM. SMALL PLATE WARNING: At this restaurant and every other restaurant we visited in Portugal, they have an annoying practice of bringing to your table small plates of food that you did not order. These are often brought to your table even before you have ordered. These include plates of bread and butter, or olives, or sliced Iberian ham, and the like. If you touch the food, the plate goes on your bill a few Euros for bread or olives, and up to 15 Euros or more for things like ham. If you don 't want these additional dishes, either wave them off as they approach your table, or if they slip them onto your table before you can wave them off, then place the plates well off to one side and do not touch them again. They will usually whisk them away.
The restaurant was just outside of our Hotel (Jeronimos 8). We went there for the third night on a Saturday. The nights before, we didn't see any guests and were not really sure, if this is a good sign. We were positively surprised: We had 2 crabs as starters really well done. The main courses were good and the wines and champagnes really excellent all for a reasonable price.
I just had lunch at Manuelino: crab meat in a shell followed by grilled lobster. Excellent! And at a very reasonable price. The wine choice is good but abit expensive. The staff are very kind but still learning on the job. They deserve however all the support they can get. They aim to provide the best service they can at a very reasonable price in a very nice room. Great location as well, near the Jeronimos Monastery, just opposite the side Chapel.
