She never liked the name of the place and thought it was not very interesting.... read more It has taken me three years to convince my partner to give this restaurant a try. She never liked the name of the place and thought it was not very interesting. Our first experience here completely changed her opinion of this eatery. She had a wonderful Alentejo themed pork and clam stew. It was well spiced with the pickled cauliflower and olives providing a counterpoint to the dish. I had piano ribs which were tasty although maybe a bit more cooked than I like. With a house red, bread and olives e bill was €20. We will definitely return. The interior is nicer than most local restaurants. Service is Portuguese style so they will leave you alone until you signal you want them.

We ordered 2 main courses about €9 ea... read more We went here because from the outside it looked like it was going to be an old fashioned Portuguese family run restaurant. We ordered 2 main courses about €9 each, a “Simple Salad” for €5, a bottle of house wine Vinho Verde) €8.50 and a 1 litre plastic bottle of still mineral water €3). We were almost immediately brought a little dish of olives, a saucer sized dish of warm meat pieces in vegetable/tomato sauce and two bread rolls no butter or spreads which we assumed complimentary. The next thing to arrive was a small rectangular tray of about seven small lettuce leaves with a similar number of lightly pickled slices of white onion we were absolutely shocked at the €5 price tag as the costs of this couldn’t have been more than 10 cents). However, we figured this was probably to compensate for the ‘free’ appetisers so we let it go. The main courses then arrived: veal slices in creamy mushroom sauce with chips and rice I had ordered monkfish pasta) and skewered pork pieces with veg, chips and rice which my partner had ordered. We called the waitress back and explained I had ordered monkfish pasta at which point she uplifted BOTH dishes then returned quickly with monkfish AND PRAWN pasta and thinly sliced pork topped with little cubes of cheese and ham. We were so fed up and hungry by this point that we ate what was in front of us definitely NOT the most tasty food we have had) and asked for the bill as soon as we finished eating our disappointing meal, assuming it would be about €30…..it was actually €43.30 because they charged us nearly €8 for appetisers that we hadn’t ordered. Rather than cause a scene and disturb other diners, we decided to pay the bill unsurprisingly not leaving a tip which we would never usually do) and submit a TripAdvisor review with full details of the dreadful experience we had this evening in an otherwise lovely city break holiday in Portugal.

Very nice, guests are fifty-fifty locals and Tourist. Food is good, price is low.
