We enjoy... read more I had pork in a truly delicious sauce served with French beans and my husband had the cod with sweet potato. Portuguese food with a contemporary slant. We enjoyed the house wine at 11 euros for the bottle. Great food, very good value and attentive service. Nice ambience. My husband is diabetic and left his novopen behind, not realising till the following morning. When we went back to the restaurant, there was a note taped to the door with a number to call. The owner ‘s father then drove round with the novopen! A genuinely friendly and caring place.

The steak and the risotto were absolutely delicious and the wines were lovely. It was reasonably price and we would visit again.

We can wholeheartedly recommend their lunch menu and will be back soon!

I've been to great restaurants/cafes/bars and I have to admit that, unfairly, I only remember to rate a place on Zomato when the experience is really traumatic,... read more I've been to great restaurants/cafes/bars and I have to admit that, unfairly, I only remember to rate a place on Zomato when the experience is really traumatic, which is the case.I've been to bad restaurants as well, but this one, Frei Contente, takes bad and mediocre to a whole new level.This restaurant works as a factory and treats costumers as a product instead as people. We were around 15 people and our reservation was scheduled from 20:00 to 22:00 (yes, there is a time to send you out). Near 22:00 they start to take everything out from the tables. I was still eating my Bacaulhau and they asked me if I wanted dessert, to which I answered I'm still having my main dish, but I will order a coffee later, yea. Yet they brought the coffee during my main dish and it stood there, getting colder. To my other friends, who had their dishes empty already, they ordered them to leave as soon as possible, they did it to everyone one-by-one till I was one of the 2/3 few left on the table.I felt bothered enough that I didn't even finish the Bacalhau, while the waiters were setting our table for the upcoming guests. There is a waiter next to the door receiving the payments on the cash register and I told him this is no way to treat clients and this is WAY FAR from being 17,00€ worth.What he answered? I'm here working since 15:00, far from my kids and my family, I'm here doing a sacrifice. What is this supposed to mean? Start talking about his personal life?Everyone has their personal life, difficulties and struggles, but why is this an answer? All the staff looks and behaves in a really chaotic way, screaming and blaming at each other in front of you.Going back, during the moment we were having dinner in this restaurant, there were maybe 40 costumers sitting in the room. In a range of 15 minutes this room turned COMPLETELY empty, with the next costumers waiting to come in. This restaurant looks like one of those Ryanair flights, where there's a queue of passengers outside the plane waiting for the plane to clear all the passengers of the previous flight.And I didn't even start talking about the food or decoration...
