Sign language, facial expre... read more While the staff as well as the owner did not speak a word of English, and we not Portuguese, communication was not a problem at all. Sign language, facial expressions and body motions was all there was needed. Luckily the menu was also in English. I ordered the pepper steak with fries on the side. I didn't know it came with a side salad, but there it was. My spouse ordered the Bacalhau (cod). The steak floated in a very tasty sauce and was a bit on the tough side, but otherwise ok. The piece of cod was generous and very well prepared. As we signaled for our bill, the owner, who had sat down at another table for his lunch, sent over some of his meal to our table. He wanted us to taste what he was eating. It was deep fried cuttlefish. It tasted absolutely delicious. Had I known it was this tasty, I would have ordered it. The restaurant itself is small, unassuming and clean. People walk in and out for a variety of reasons. It clearly is a neighborhood restaurant. Food is basic, but good and the service friendly.

The octopus is cooked elegantly with the traditional olive oil, garlic, and cilantro but somehow it’s been done better than usual. Perhaps the amount of care used in these delicious recipes has been doubled? The staff seems to have been there forever— from the cook to the waiter and you can tell their way of doing things has been developed after many years in service. The lunch specials are affordable and big enough for two to share. The house wine is simple but delicious, and the atmosphere is charming enough to keep you coming back.
