A very nice place with a absolutely friendly owner. We had breakfast there several times and once dinner. don't expect a high class place! It is a neighborhood cafe with some good food and always busy in the evenings. View all feedback.

Having read the existing reviews of this place we decided to enjoy the authentic Portugese cuisine we read about on our last evening in Lisbon. It’s important to note that this is a little neighbourhood cafe/bar rather than a restaurant. We realised straight away when we sat down that the ambience wasn’t what we were after, due to the door being left wide open on a chilly November evening, and the TV playing loudly right behind us. However we stayed due to being tired, having walked a way there, and not wanting to seem rude once seated. We were impressed by the variety on the menu for such a small place, and by the owner who was staffing the place on his own for the first part of the evening. We enjoyed the bread and cheese provided as a starter, but be aware that you will be charged for everything they put down so reject anything you don’t want. For example, we got charged for the pot of paté they put on the table even though we didn’t ask for it and didn’t even open it. For mains we had the sardines and the salmon. The sardines were perfectly cooked and the salmon was nice, if a little salty. The sides were mediocre. The desserts on offer looked nice but we didn’t have room for them. Overall, the food was worth the money we paid €31 for the starter, 2 mains, 2 large beers and 2 small beers), but if you’re looking for restaurant quality then look elsewhere.
We ate here because it was close to our accommodation. We sat at an outside table. The owner came out and explained the menu which was in Portuguese. We all chose the grilled Octopus. WOW. It came in a sizzling terracotta pot laced with garlic, smashed potatoes and olives. It was one of the best dishes we have had in Portugal. The cost was 8 euro. We will definitely return to try other dishes
Casa Java is a typical neighborhood Lisbon Café that is trying to keep the tradition. Very small. Mr Fernando the owner is a cosmopolitan man that knows a lot of Europe and American countries and culture. A real connoisseur and experimented person. A Chef also. He is the real soul of what you can eat in Casa Java. You must try the Day Dishes, pratos do dia, because they are cheaper and normally traditional Portuguese cuisine. If you are an adventurer taste the Francesinha or the Cachupa. Fernando does them fairly. In summer the beer, tremoços and caracois are a must. The ceiling worth the visit to Casa Java. Look and photograph as you please.
Indoor and outdoor tables. Service is friendly but slow due to limited staff. Food very good and portions generous. Inside can be crowded with tables very close and some with shelves you can bump your head on if you are not careful. Obviously a popular local place with typical Portuguese food cooked to perfection.

It’s a great find close to marquês de pombal. It is hard to find a simple but good portuguese restaurant for that price! Staff is friendly and food was great!
Great place to come if you speak English. Great atmosphere for carnival. Love the fact you can get a cafe, gélato and alcohol all in the same place. Staff are so friendly and great to dance with.
