This small, convenient, mini cafe, lunch counter proved to be a quick and easy place to either take a break, central location to meet with members of our vacation group, people watch from the window bar height seating, and or just to grab a snack and go. We stayed in the central, old historic downtown Lisbon in a 5th floor penthouse apartment directly across the street from Cafe Buondi, and this relatively small and intimate family run cafe (mom and pop were running the place and serving customer each and every day every time we popped in proved to become a regular and friendly location for our group to meet, recharge, and even do a quick coffee and snack pick up and take the food back to our apartment. The cafe was actually a saving grace for us when we 1st arrived in the city. Our AIR BnB apartment was not ready when we arrived (as we did get to the downtown old central core much earlier than we planned so we dropped off our luggage, and while one of our party drove to return the rental car, the cafe was our meeting spot, jet lagged break room, and provided our very first 'meal ' in the city. We went into the cafe because it was so conveniently close to our apartment base, it provide great views and tourist watching perches from the window bar ledge, and let us keep a 360 degree watch out for out other party member when he returned from the car rental drop off. Our intent was to pop in just for a canned pop, but ended up with coffees, sandwiches, snacks, etc. I had asked for a fresh orange from the glass front counter, but was pleasantly surprised the 'momma ' took several oranges from the counter, and instead of just handing them to me, she actually in full sigh of me put them in juicer, and came back with an amazing glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. I was more than surprised, and the juice really hit the spot! We returned to the cafe several times for coffees, snacks, and a quick sit down rest. The only issue we encountered was that on one day after miles of walking and touring and feeling a bit dusty and dirty, the small public washroom (key access only when the owners provided the key from the service counter had no running water and all I wanted to do was wash my hands and splash some water on my face. Other than that every encounter that we had with and in Cafe Buondi was very nice small, nice atmosphere (especially when not packed with tourists like us! very clean and well kept, and obviously an area resident favourite, which alone says a lot. If you are in the area, stop by and enjoy!!!

Popped in here after our climb to Castello S. Jorge and needed something to revive us. Good coffee and good Portuguese custard tarts. Nothing fancy and very reasonable prices. Sometimes that is just what you need.
