What Matheus Carvalho dislikes about Alcaparra:
Came for the reviews, went away for the lack of cleaning and the owner's attitude. Watch out, prices that they charge you are not the same that are on the menus! View all feedback.
Met up with a friend who suggested Alcaparra. Chef Carlos and his staff were gracious and attentive. We ordered a delicious array of dishes such as scrambled eggs with chicken sausage, bruschetta, octopus salad, and clams with garlic sauce.
Al Caparra is a small restaurant on a side street in a non touristy part of Lisbon. If you like Tapas, it is well worth the small effort to get there. It is a one minute walk from the Metro Saldanha. I stumbled across it at lunchtime and the owner suggested that he make a dinner reservation for me. When it is full, I think this place might hold 30 people. The menu is small and sensible. The evening I was there, I think there were five main dishes on the daily menu. The Tapas menu contains 12 15 items. I was dining alone so I chose Tapas. I began with Salada do Polvo. This was a good sized Tapas dish. It would be plenty for two people to share. A large portion of octopus chunks, beautifully seasoned in a simple vinegary dressing with onions, tomatoes and (I think cilantro. Served with nice bread, lightly toasted. I followed with a second tapas dish … Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato (which Google translates as “Bulhão duck clams” . This dish consisted of lots … 40 or 50 … of the tiniest clams I have ever eaten in a very garlicky broth. Once again, a pretty large dish for a Tapas. The owner was wonderful, helpful and friendly. He insisted that I try both of his dry white wines. I did and they were both great. I finished the meal with a soft chocolate tart and a glass of port. This was a Tuesday evening in November and there were nine people in all eating in the early evening. This is a wonderful little restaurant. I think that, in better weather, they have additional tables “in the street”.
This place is amazing! Small restaurant with so friendly owner! Food excellent! We recommend this place! You should try! We had shrimps, octopus salad and beef.
We stumbled across this restaurant looking for lunch. We arrived before they opened, and the owner let us sit down and served us drinks while we waited till noon. The owner was helpful and friendly to two travelers who recently arrived earlier that morning. The food was excellent. A variety of choices and again the owner translated the menu for us. It is a popular place for the local residents and it filled up shortly after it opened. We will definitely return for dinner, but will book a table when we do. A great meal for a good price.
