We went to Kankay times while we were living in Lima, there aren't too many places to get away to from Lima for a day, but this is a good option. It's a hour drive to Cienaguilla from Lima, fortunately, given the abysmal...driving standards in Peru, the drive isn't too stressful. You cross the river around Sauce Alto, continue through Huaycán Alto and eventually get to Kankay. Turn left and down a few hairpin bends to the car park. There's a set fee for entrance, originally it included a cover fee for lunch, but last time we went lunch was separate. The complex includes an outdoor restaurant and a swimming pool. There is also a hotel. We just went for the day and were very happy. The restaurant offers typical Peruvian cuisine, which is to say it's very good. Huge portions. I enjoyed the trout. The restaurant staff are friendly and attentive. It's a family resort, so the pool will have lots of kids. Since the place is in a mountain valley, the sun disappears early. Depending on the season, it might appear late or not at all.
Food is relatively expensive in a nice spot though. Staff were helpful and friendly. Not a bad place for a day put of Lima.
It is a nice place to stay overnight but requires improvement in the following areas: There are dogs in the premises that could scare children. There are no table lamps in the rooms. Those lamps are good for indirect light. The are...no ceiling fans in the rooms. Guests could get hold of desk fans but the are noisy. Once those issues are addressed, I would give the place a star review.
The food quality here is comparable to the other countryside restaurants in Cieneguilla pretty good if a bit expensive for what it is but families really come here so their kids can run around in the fresh air, kick the soccer ball, play...games, etc. Service is spotty, and really gets bad if the place is crowded...for example, it was a wait for a cup of coffee at the end of the meal.
We stayed in a bungalow, it included breakfast which consisted of bread with butter and jelly, juice and coffee, mediocre to say the least, the bread was cold and the juice came from a cheap box. We made the mistake of eating in the restaurant...for lunch, it was expensive and the food was bad. Will never return, nor will I recommend it to anyone.
