We were made to feel very welcome in JaJa despite being obvious English tourists in a local haunt which is all the rage at the moment. All the tables were reserved but the waiter rearranged some “reserved” signs to fit us in. Food is basically a choice of cold meats, cheese or seafood platters or a combination of these, but the ingredients were uniformly excellent and portions are large. Top quality wines are sold by... What David m doesn't like about Le Jaja:
Popped in for a quick drink before going to Rouge Barre closeby. Very basic bar with 2 draft beers, a few spirits, and some wine behind the bar. Simple tables, very basic inside. Charcuterie etc offered. Host of fantastic empty bottles on the window ledges some very rare wines indded, ie Coche Dury) Wines like this not sold , but private events held here. View all feedback.
We were staying in an airbnb flat directly above so couldn't be closer. Hadn't booked on a Saturday night but just dropped in. Had to wait 20 minutes as was very busy but enjoyed wine whilst doing so. Great choice of French wines and then we spotted the platters. Can I say there are platters and then there are platters - best we have ever had. It was cheeses and meats but went on forever. Not the cheapest but very tasty. Place very lively with hipsters and students. Felt very home.

A Lille blogger wrote about this place (and it is only a two minute walk from our hostel) so we went for a visit. The ambience is warm and hip with a lot of wood, but the lights are too bright here as well. We had two different white wines, a Pinto and a Viognier, which were good but not special. We also had a "plateau mixte" which was well filled and quite good, although a bit pricey. Wines €6 and the plate was €28.
Great discovery in Lille! Great choice of wines and delicious sharing boards Service is great Cozy atmosphere
