If you're coming from Houston, Troys is the spot to be. It's a fun local hangout with karaoke and cold beers – what's not to love? This place deserves six stars if you're looking for a true local experience. You definitely need to check it out if you enjoy dive bars with refreshing drinks.
This is a great dive bar. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, with a strong sense of community. The owner, Troy, is truly a gem. They offer karaoke for just $1 per song, and there are plenty of dart machines to enjoy as well.
Drinks at Troy's were quite strong, and later in the evening, they offered complimentary popcorn. If you wanted to sing, it cost a dollar per song, but there was no designated karaoke host. Instead, we had to submit our song requests to a waitress or bartender. When it was your turn, there was no announcement of names—only a list of song numbers displayed on a screen, which made it tricky to remember what you had requested. Additionally, some guests seemed to sing multiple songs in succession while others hadn’t had a chance to perform at all. Microphones were available on the tables, and you would pick one up when it was your turn. Just a heads up—there were no COVID precautions like covering on the microphones. Most people chose to sing from their tables rather than stepping up to a stage. There were some amazing and talented singers, with a great blend of Hawaiian tunes and classic favorites. It was definitely a unique karaoke experience compared to the mainland, but we still had a lot of fun!
