This is a lovely seafood restaurant with a friendly staff, delicious food, and a relaxed atmosphere. The entrees come with a basket that includes coleslaw, fries, and tasty hush puppies. The fish baskets offer a variety of options such as catfish, cod, haddock, and rockfish. There is also plenty of free parking available. We will certainly return! View all feedback.
The crab legs are amazing at this place. The customer service is really good as well. The staff is attentive and polite. It felt clean and the price is fair for what you get. However, I haven't been coming here lately since they started to up-charge when you pay with a credit card. Seems like they're really trying to push cash only. Because of this I'm giving them 4 stars
I did not care for most of the food I got. Giving 3 stars to be generous because I did like the fried shrimp. I had one of the daily specials: crab cake and shrimp (and 2 sides, onion rings and baked potato) for $17. The fried shrimp was good. It's a smooth batter, flour based I guess. I got the crab cake broiled. It was ok, but probably should've gotten it fried.. was a little mushy for my preference. Sides were not good at all. The onion rings (cost extra) had a sourness to them (beer battered probably, but not good at all). The onions were super mushy/slimy and they were really greasy. Probably worst onion rigs I've ever had, honestly. Like legit gross. The baked potato was as tiny and basic as you can imagine. Wasn't salted on the outside or buttered or anything. Surprisingly did NOT like the hush puppies either. All the Yelps i read indicated they were good but mine were barely seasoned.. just tasted like fried dough with a tad of onion powder. Would prefer Long John Silvers hush puppies over these lol. Maybe I got a bad batch? I might go back and try the crab while I'm in town. I want to like this place. The workers were all nice and seemed to like their jobs.. it was very busy so I think it's all about ordering the right things (the WRONG thing is the onion rings. I can't stress that enough. Don't do it). Be sure and ASK for cocktail sauce if you are taking to go. Almost left without it.
This is my third visit and all my dining experiences here at this simple restaurant have been very good. I came with my husband two other times in the past for a dozen crabs with hush puppies, fries, green beans, etc. They were fairly big so good! It was $40 a dozen. Today on a Wednesday they are on special at $20 all u can eat with two sides and not for take out so eat all of your food here. The woman who served me has been the same person who has served on my other visits. She is very good and can handle the whole restaurant by herself with quite ease. I like this place. It's not fancy, but then again, it's a crab place. The food has been consistently good and the specials are nice too.
To-go Order: large male crabs with extra spice and a bowl of vegetable crab soup. Unfortunately, folks, this is NOT the place to eat. The soup was the worst tasting crab soup I've ever had. I wanted to like it since there were plenty of vegetables and crab pieces, but the crab smelled and tasted old. The broth wasn't good, and it's a shame because it had such potential. The large male crabs were more like mediums. They were full of meat and a decent weight, so I didn't give only 1 star for the review. The extra spice request wasn't granted. The reason for only 2 stars is that many of the crabs were old. They smelled spoiled, and after tasting one, I knew I had to spit it out. I ate the fresher crabs, but I had to toss the spoiled ones. I was utterly disappointed and felt ripped off since I had to throw away $18 worth of crabs. I also gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the staff tries to be helpful. They have a decent attitude and seem to work hard. The large spiced crabs cost $55/dozen, and the bowl of soup was $8. It would have been well worth it if the crabs were fresh and high quality. I hope this review helps you choose another local crab restaurant where you'll get your money's worth and enjoy one of the sea's greatest delicacies.
Fun place to stop in... food was mostly fried but the hush puppies were awesome and the clam strips reminded me of up east clam shacks. Beer here, no cocktails but the service was swift and an order of the clam chowder was quickly replaced when we had an issue. Will be back in the fall when we have another lighthouse reservation!
