Description

Wayback Diner blends generous comfort food with a nostalgic 1950s café vibe, offering an extensive menu of breakfasts, sandwiches and standout burgers. Guests praise fresh flavors, crisp fried dishes, delivery/app ordering and wheelchair access via a side entrance. Experiences vary, though: service and food consistency can be hit-or-miss, with occasional slow or inattentive staff and some greasy or underwhelming plates. Best for casual breakfasts, shopper stops and relaxed lunches when you want classic, roomy diner charm.

I don't live in Lewiston but my boyfriend and I often shop there and awhile back ate breakfast at Wayback and it was pretty good. We recently were in town and decided to have breakfast there again. When we walked in, there were only 6 diners inside, we sat at a table and it was quite some time before we were greeted...,if you could call it that. The woman who was working came to our table, never said hi, good morning...but she did ask in a irritated way, if it was just the two of us and asked us to move to a smaller table. Apparently she was expecting a massive crowd to come in at any moment filling up the restaurant. We moved, and then waited. And waited and waited. She took the other table's order, but completely ignored us. We left and went to Waffles and More. And we got to eat.

I ordered food through an app on Sunday, August 25th, to be delivered to my workplace at CRCasino, and everything was absolutely delicious and satisfying! We had the MexiWrap, potato salad, ChiliBurger with fries (which were served open-faced and so generously topped with chili that you could hardly see the burger underneath—yum!), a breakfast platter featuring eggs, French toast, bacon, sausage, and hash browns, and a pork chop platter that came with two chops, a generous amount of brown gravy over mashed potatoes, corn, a side salad, and a cup of applesauce. My coworkers and I couldn't stop raving about each dish, and we all left feeling happy and full!

However, the server was extremely rude and made us feel like an inconvenience. The food was very bland, and to make matters worse, the waitress had a troubling coughing and sneezing fit right in front of us, which completely killed our appetite. After finishing our meal, we inadvertently sat there for an additional 45 minutes waiting for our check. The waitress walked past our table several times, ignoring us, and when she finally brought the check, we had to wait another 15 minutes for her to pick it up, even though she was nearby. We didn't receive any drink refills and were never asked if we wanted boxes for our leftovers. In a last-minute attempt to get our check settled, she rudely instructed us to bring it to her, as if she’d intended to keep us waiting indefinitely. Given the poor service and the unappetizing food, which cost us $40, I won’t be returning. I prefer to avoid sick individuals around my food and would rather have courteous service.
