This refuge is about half an hours walk from the car park, no cars allowed in the National Park, so make sure you have suitable shoes whatever season you visit. I was there for a day after the wedding lunch, they had opened a few days earlier than the summer season especially for us. GREAT food! and beautiful view! Great place to hang out after climbing in du midi. It did require a short hike from plan l'aiguille but it's totally worth it

Ride the Aiguille du Midi ski lift up halfway (Plan de l'aiguille) and then take a little hike down the mountain on the trails.
We have visited the Refuge du Plan in both the summer and the winter. It is located a short walk from the car park in Mottaret along the cross-country skiing track. It is away from the downhill pistes and therefore quieter and cheaper.The building itself is a beautiful Alpine log cabin which is well appointed and is cosy and warm in winter. It is not connected to mains electricity so some things are a little basic, but that simply adds to the charm of the place.The food is good with generous portions and we have always found the service to be friendly and attentive.
A welcome respite after an invigorating snowy walk. Set in a beautiful alpine valley in a nature reserve, but close to Mottaret centre. Delicious 'Soupe de Grandmere'.
