I haven't been here in over 4 years, but used to frequent this place on previous stays. Was glad to see it is still open as I always enjoyed the food. I thought I remembered English menus, but was not offered one this time (I may be wrong on that though). Made it a little more difficult in my beer selection, but I came for the schnitzel and found that easy enough. Service was good, but the restaurant wasn't more than a third full when I came in. However, they continued to serve me well even after it filled up. The ambiance is a typical Bavarian/German gasthaus and seems like it is kept up and clean. My one disappointment was previously I was served a good sized plate full of food. This time around the are using smaller rectangular plates to make it look full, but the portions are much smaller. Sign of the rising costs all over I suppose. I still left full, but still something to consider if you have been here previously and have an expectation. Otherwise, I was happy and will return on subsequent visits to Leipzig.
We sat outside in the cold (our choice and had a beer. I ordered a dunkle and enjoyed it. I am still learning the ins and outs of German beer. Dunkel=good. Paulaner is a Bavarian restaurant (chain, I think with blue white Bavarian everything. The servers are all in traditional Bavarian attire (i.e. dirndls. Taking a look at the menu I saw traditional German food. We didn 't eat there just there for a beer however I might try to stop in during my next trip.
Unfriendly welcome by the Oberkellner. Special request outdoor table in beautiful weather) was completely ignored. The food was very disappointing. It was completely unhurried, roast potatoes were black. The plate language was very sober and unloved. The portion sizes were very different. One was more of an appetizer, although designated as a main dish. One had the feeling that the dishes were prepared and were only pushed into the microwave for heating under the Salamander or into the microwave, because how else should one explain that the sauerkraut is browned from above and totally dry. Another visit to this restaurant is no longer a question for us and a question is not. Also, you should not be fooled by the photos of food on the website. Furthermore, it should be considered whether the Oberkellner has chosen the right profession. He's barely overwhelmed by incompatibility.
