It was very cold and windy as we toured the Christmas markets and we were looking for a place to get a coffee and cocoa, sit and rest for awhile before continui... read more It was very cold and windy as we toured the Christmas markets and we were looking for a place to get a coffee and cocoa, sit and rest for awhile before continuing our tour of the old town . We chose the Alex since we were in the Midieval Christmas market and by this time we were cold.The place was mobbed as the markets were crowded on this weekend day. Seems everybody had the same idea--search out warmth and hot drinks! Despite being packed, we were seated immediately and service was friendly and prompt. I have to admit we probably stayed a little longer than usual--the warmth of the restaurant and the hot drinks was just too inviting on a cold damp day!

It was a delightful place to be as it is a nice square and off of a main thoroughfare in town. Today we stopped and had drinks. I had a Himbeerschorle, fizzy water with some raspberry syrup. It was amazing and very refreshing. We hung out a while and then we decided we should have something to eat. My wife and our friend had salads, but when I saw Alsatian tarte flambée, I could not resist. They called it Flammkuchen and I must say, that although it wasn’t the perfect rendition, it was darn close! Service is good and I even had my first beer of Germany, a wonderful pilsner.

ALEX also has a Sunday brunch option, I hope to try it on my next visit.
