I had wanted to have a nightcap cappuccino somewhere in the city just before midnight on Friday, May 23rd. Not so easy, I learned. I was just passing the stairs of Auerbachs Keller when I spotted Café Mefisto. It was still quite full inside, with seemingly like-minded people. But then the waitress had to explain to me that they were just closing. She did, however, suggest I go to Alex over behind the town hall. No sooner said than done. Inside, I had free choice of seating and friendly service. And after ordering, a young lady promptly served me the cappuccino I requested. The interior and lighting were also nicely decorated, with an interesting overall concept, with many different seating areas, both inside and outside on a terrace. After paying later, the lady confirmed that they were practically the only place in the city center where you could get a coffee until 2 a.m. would get. So respect for this opportunity. I wish continued good business and satisfied customers, like I was one....
I went to this restaurant with my school class today for a class dinner. Most of the waiters were very friendly, and the service overall was really good – I have to give them a big thumbs up for that. At the same time, unfortunately, there was a situation where I felt discriminated against as a diabetic: Due to hypoglycemia, I urgently needed to drink my own juice – for medical reasons. A waiter reacted with visible suspicion, which made me feel like I had to justify my illness. This was very uncomfortable at the time and put me under additional stress. I fully understand that, as a general rule, you shouldn't consume food or drinks brought from outside in a restaurant – that's understandable and sensible. But in an exceptional health situation like this, I wish for more understanding and a bit more empathy from the staff. I hope that such situations will be handled with a bit more sensitivity in the future – also to protect guests with chronic illnesses.
