I have been a regular at The Stump for over 40 years and have witnessed many changes in ownership. The last 3 years have been great, but now new owners Laura and Elisha have taken over. We tried the new food menu and were blown away! I had the curried goat and my wife had the lamb's liver and mash, both were delicious. They have a great selection of bar food available throughout the week, and we can't wait to try their Sunday lunch. The new chefs are truly talented, and the staff are friendly and attentive. I hope they succeed in this new venture, and I highly recommend giving it a try.

First let 's give the benefit of doubt, and say maybe it was just a bad day in the kitchen. But as our party all felt the same way about our meal we are posting this review for the benefit of others, including the guys that run the pub. One big issue with the overall meal was the lack of seasoning in everything on the plate. We were fighting over the salt and pepper from start to finish, which helped a little but really this needs some attention at the stove not the table. To be fair and honest let it be said that the actual ingredient elements are of high quality, they just failed to reach their potential due to poor attention during the cooking process. Hopefully the chef will get a spice rack for Christmas and give the food a taste check before sending it out, as it really was rather bland. Another kitchen issue was the under cooking of vegetables. Shame really, as there was a good selection on the plate but all were equally missing a little more oven time than they were given. We all turn out a crunchy carrot now and again, but here we were served a full spectrum of broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes each and every one was underdone to the point of being 'too hard to enjoy ', including the mash, bizarrely. So maybe a veg timer to go with the spice rack would help, along with that taste check prior to plating up. Away from the kitchen (to give the poor chef a break) there was an issue with portion management that stood out to all our party. The starring role should go to the roast meat, but it was a little lost and lonely amongst the massed ranks of super sized veg portions which occupied most of the plate. It seemed each of us were given a whole head of broccoli, half a cauli and a family portion of carrot and cabbage had it been well cooked and seasoned we might have done it some justice, but to be honest it was still too 'big ' on the plate for our liking. The gravy was good. The lumpy white stuff in the pyrex jug was not, and we failed to identify it either as bread or cheese sauce. It might have been there to soften the mash, not sure really. Across those issues it left us disappointed to eat here, but there is a lot of potential to get back on the track towards good food. The pub is a very nice environment to be in really clean, light and airy, a very welcoming and pleasant place to be. The beer is good, and it should be too, as it is more expensive than other local pubs. If we 'did it different ' we would switch from the current pile it high but cook it quick approach. Focus on the flavour and the processes to produce a reduced array of better finished veg on a more balanced plate with the roast meat as the star. It 's obvious these guys actually want to get it right, as the quality of the raw ingredients is clear and their generosity can 't be faulted. The service is quick, efficient, friendly. The pub is clean, welcoming and a pleasant place to be. We were so looking forward to some home cooked fresh Sunday Lunch but were let down on our visit, this time.
