I accept a lot when eating out but one thing I will not accept is a business that is not ADA compliant. My wife and I stopped here to pick up some food to take back to our hotel (we were in town for a convention)My wife got the brisket plate with baked beans and mac/cheese. I got the full rack of spareribs and fries. The woman helping us was I suppose the owner 's wife. She was not overly personable, but we were taking our food out, so it didn 't matter. First about the food....I did taste the brisket, beans and mac. The beans tasted like they were from a can. Seemed more like pork and beans than baked beans. Very thin sauce and not a whole lot of flavor. The mac and cheese was ok but a bit too salty for my taste. The brisket was tender, and you could taste the smoke flavor but that was about it. The fries I had were crinkle cut but by the time we got to the hotel, they were very soggy and almost inedible. The spareribs were very fatty and had a lot of gristle. I think I threw out 1/3 of the rack as it wasn 't edible. The cornbread as they call it was just a pancake. It was pretty much disintegrated by the time we ate. Now, getting back to the resturaunt. The wife put 4 little tubs of bbq sauce in a bag. I knew I was getting a full rack of spareribs and I like a lot of sauce. I asked her if I could have more. She goes how many are in the bag? . I told her 4. She says, I 'll give you ONE more . Really?? If I ate there, I would have a whole bottle on the table to use and she gets an attitude because I asked for a little more. As I got my money out to pay her, she saw my VA card (I 'm a veteran) She says you 're a vet ? I said yes. She tells me her husband was a vet. Did not offer any military discount at all. Great way to support the military. But you know what? I could live with everything I just described but one thing I cannot and will not accept is a business that is NOT HANDICAP ACCESSABLE. My wife is disabled. She has to have a walker to walk. This place had no ramp to lead inside the building. They do have a small ramp, but you still have to get over a 6-inch curb. If my wife wanted to stop here on her own, she couldn 't because she wouldn 't be able to get to the door without help. VERY SHAMEFUL!! I have also reported them to the ADA. If you want sub-par food, limitations on the BBQ sauce you get, non-military discount and are not disabled, then this is the place for you! So many other BBQ places in the area. I will pick one of them next time. Very, very sad
Great little family business. Clean, great home-cooked food. Noticed a lot of take out. Not a pass by. Don't judge a book by it's cover! Special- catfish, greens, and chess pie.
