I refused to offer a review of la trop, as we have been eating here for nearly 30 years. Anyway, it's the best Mexican food in town, easy. fresh enchiladas not excessively sown or cheese. pan roasted tacos are great. best guacamole in the city, probably in the state. family owners, very nice people. very consistent. it's a real comfort for me now after all these years. eating here is like a warm hug, but not in a cre... What Clovis Schoen doesn't like about La Tropicana:
Nice people, strong drinks, but the blandest food you can imagine. No ability to make things spicier—and brought out a small cup of pickled jalapeños to compensate. Much better options in Lawrence, sadly. View all feedback.
Very friendly and attentive staff. family style restful. quaint decoration. eating was very good. the prices are very reasonable. in portions corresponded to the trips. house salsa was ok. wheelchair access is good. parking available.

Pricey for a late lunch... queso was runny with very little flavor. Tacos and enchiladas were just ok. Margaritas weren't very good, as two people in our party tried them and didn't finish them. Disappointed...
We were attracted by the fun and vibrant restaurant which is why I’m so disappointed that the experience didn’t add up. We spent $55 for two meals, chips and salsa (you pay for the appetizer) and two drinks. The menu barely lists the prices of things and the waitress rings your card up without telling you the amount (i take fault for not asking before running it). $55 on Mexican food. I was expecting the quality of the food to be pretty good considering we paid so much. Our food was served on paper plates and we received our silverware in a plastic bag. The chips are so hard that I wouldn’t doubt if they were left out. I’m unsure what the experience normally is but we were super disappointed. We won’t be going back or recommending.
Giving it a 2 b/c its cute atmosphere food mediocre. They charge for tap water $1.00 but dont tell you btw. That's ridiculous! We purchased beers and frozen pine colada and 4 dinner specials and they charged us for tap water? Left a real bad taste in all of our mouths.
