The food is amazing! We got Teriyaki Chicken and Katsu Chicken. Both fantastic. I also discovered on accident that I like the Creamy Sesame dressing for the salad on my Teriyaki Chicken and rice better than the Teriyaki sauce. The grilled chicken alone with no sauce was also great. The dining area had no ambiance and was just your basic (and packed too tightly with tables) casual quick serve restaurant style. That was... What Christina D doesn't like about Makai: Pacific Island Grill:
Ordered through Grubhub. The food was ready quickly so I KNEW it wouldn't be fresh, but it was too late to cancel. Once I received the food the top wasn't even on secure. I looked at it and threw it away after taking pictures. I ordered this for 2 of my children to share because I'm exhausted. Now not only was this a waste of money and food, but a HUGE inconvenience. So disgusting! View all feedback.
The food is still good, as it always has been since I started coming here. However, the service used to be great, and now it has significantly declined. When we arrived at 8:25 PM, the long-haired server complained to a coworker about the orders coming in. The other staff member also seemed annoyed. When I asked about the menu, the first server responded in a condescending manner, as if I should already know the answers. He showed no enthusiasm and was quite rude. We really should have just walked out at that point. If you don't enjoy your job, then perhaps you shouldn't be working here—no one is forcing you to. This will be my last visit to this establishment.
We ordered seven dishes, but several items were missing from our order. The white rice was hard and way too soggy. We paid a lot of money, only to find out we received missing food items for which we had paid an extra charge, along with the poorly prepared rice. Both the teriyaki and katsu chicken tasted old and sour! To make matters worse, some of our plates were poorly stacked together. Additionally, two of our employees had to leave early due to stomach pain after eating the food. It's disappointing, especially given the high ratings—this location is definitely hit or miss! Don’t be fooled by the reviews!
The staff behind the counter seem disinterested and unengaged. It can take as long as 20 minutes to get your order because the employees lack communication skills and show little concern for customer service. The food is decent, but you can find better options elsewhere without the inconvenience. Food rating: 3/5.
Honestly this was the most disappointing Hawaiian food I've ever had. It was my first time there, I was the first one up in line and they didn't even acknowledge I was there. Finally they asked what I wanted, I got the Katsu, Kimchi, Macaroni Salad, White Rice, Teriyaki Chicken and Spicy Ahi Poke. The Ahi Poke comes in a small container bowl, for the extra cost not worth it. The Teriyaki Chicken and Katsu were flavorless. I was not a fan at all, the macaroni salad had potatoes in it? I've never had Hawaiian Macaroni Salad with potatoes, it did not taste that great. Kimchi was also very bland. When I was asked what sauce I wanted I asked for 3 sirachas, when I got home I had 5 soy sauce packages. I'd much rather go to Island Flavor 808 even if it's more of a drive. First and last time.
Had a wonderful experience. Service was on point! I had the teriyaki chicken with white rice and corn. It was yummy. This was on the list of musts when I came to Vegas. Will be back! Thanks!Food: 5/5
