Despite Malala being the top rated restaurant in Las Grutas we did not expect a meal of the quality we received. Like in most places in Las Grutas people here have very limited English so with our rudimentary Spanish knowledge we did not manage to negotiate our way out of a nine course meal of "small" portions. As it turned out this was the best choice. The meal consisted of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts all in "taster portions", each of which would have passed for a full portion. The starters were a salad in a cheese basket, Argentinean spring roll and breaded king prawns, the mains were gnocchi with a tomato mushroom sauce, langostine risotto and a mini steak hugosso in a pepper sauce with papas. As deserts they served a chocolate mousse, a strawberry sponge and lemon sorbet in a sweet pastry basket. All dishes tasted fabulous and were presented with lots of attention to detail and creativity. A standard of cooking which you find in very few restaurants. Unlike most of these restaurants though the portions were very generous and we hardly managed to finish and only did this because the food was too good to waste. The service was also excellent despite the language difficulties. For a meal like this in Europe you would pay at least close to a 3 figure sum per person, here we paid roughly 60€ for both of us. Important to know is that the meal lasted almost 3 hours. For everybody who wants to have an excellent, high class meal for great value for money this is the place to go.
