We were experiencing the hottest June weather in Condom since the war, and wanted to lunch somewhere handy for Condom but with a country feel, L'Estanquet was perfect, great setting next to the fortified village of Larressingle, great food, great atmosphere and exceptional friendly service, beautiful, we will try evening next time, jazz often played here too. We booked for 20h, i asked for pizza but was told no pizza so we both ordered chicken skewers and chips just after 20h30; at 21h40 we were still waiting for our meal; i asked how much longer it would be and was told at least 10 minutes . We were not prepared to wait any longer. Other clients had already complained about the unacceptable wait for food and suggested we also complain which we did. The chef, who we knew from her previous restaurant, came out on the offensive, blamed everything other than herself, was aggressive, rude and unapologetic- disgraceful. We had known from friends that the restaurant had problems with long wait for food but did not imagine it would be this bad. The 2 servers, who had been perfect, despite having to cope with unhappy angry clients, apologised to us albeit not their fault. In 50 years of eating in restaurants in France, London etc and living in the Gers for 25 years, we have never had such a bad restaurant experience, let alone walked out without having had our meal , appalling.
A hugely disappointing experience in this picturesque location. After waiting for almost one and a half hours for our starters, and receiving gracious apologies from one of the chefs, which highlighted the lack of communication between front and back of house) the quality of the dishes served mostly failed to impress: foie gras served with three tiny round slices of rubbery, un toasted bread; platter for two with tiny portion of hummus, poor quality olives, a few slices of tasteless salami and a thimbleful of gaspacho. The burrata starter served with a few slices of tomatoes was the best of a poor selection. The dough of the Meat Feast pizzas was good, however, the topping was minimalistic, with very little meat or cheese. The hamburger and steak were good , but the salmon salad main dish was an extremely small portion more like a starter) with a few strips of marinated salmon very good) and hardly any salad served on the side of the fish. We had plenty of time while we were waiting for our meal, to glance around at the other tables. The scene revealed a similar situation to ours and many glum faces. The restaurant was about three quarters full. After our main course, three and a half hours later, we decided to leave without ordering desert or coffee. My husband went in to ask for the bill, no gesture was made in recompense, but more importantly, we left without seeing anyone from the management, feeling let down at the end of what was supposed to be a joyful family celebration.
We had a lovely evening at L’estanquet on the 28th May and we found all the staff very friendly and helpful. Although, we do have to single out Robi who went above and beyond to attend to us despite the restaurant being fully booked and weather particularly rainy, so the outdoor terraces were somewhat out of action. However, she miraculously managed to conjure up a cosy spot for us outside but undercover so we really did end up enjoying a fabulous almost private dining experience. We have already recommended an advance wedding party to book a table at L’estanquet on the 13th July. Keep up the great work.
Great little restaurant tucked behind the chateau. Great food, pliantly of choice. We had the camembert and meat platter to start which were fantastic, highly recommend the camembert. I had a pizza for main which was good but probably a waste with all the other things on the menu, a throw-away choice really. My father had the confit duck which looked great! For pudding I had the creme brûlée which was fantastic, and I also tried the lemon meringue pie, and the croustade which were both fantastic.
Food was very good, service was good, out door eating area was lovely. Price very reasonable. Even a little children's play area.
